Transplanting a DCC sound chassis into an older body shell
Hi All,I got in some more detailing work today. I blanked the lower headlight, added 2 large number boards, and put a 5-chime Nathan air horn on the roof (LHS). Needs a radio antenna. I don't have anything fine enough, and I couldn't find one in the spares, so I'll order one (white metal casting, N or HO is fine). I'll wait for the adhesive to out-gas before filling some small gaps with putty and cleaning up. Getting the boards illuminated is going to be interesting.
There has been little progress on those roof water radiators. I have some louvers coming next week to try something. If that fails I'll try wrapping some P/B rod with fine copper wire and see what it looks like at 3 feet.
The second photo is the club layout S-curves. We were at the Boy Scout model railway badge meeting Saturday and Sunday. Part of the merit badge is they have to visit the various layouts and ask some questions. There were Z. N, HO, S, and Lego layouts.
Cheers,
Nigel

I finally got around to giving that E6A body shell tester a coat of black satin. you will recall this a tester body shell to see what's worthwhile and what's a WOT. And what's YTD. I used peelable latex mask (Vallejo) for the windows, rattle can satin black from Krylon.
Good. Nose work - blanking a headlight, 45° number plates. New horns.
WOT. Firecracker antenna (very fine 3D print that breaks when I look at it, needs to be metal). Portholes (difficult to center, lots of work cutting out and adding new panels).
YTD. Those roof radiators. Not having much luck replicating them. Needs #d print or etch. The cooling coils are relatively easy, soft copper wire works well (not shown.
Looking through photographs of E6As and E7As there were a few that underwent upgrading to E8A standards and that retained rectangular windows. Phew, that solves that one.
So I'll update with the good, ignore the WOT, add some coiling coils, and think about the roof radiators.
Some photos below.
