Nice to see you can do scenery still mate after all that track laying. :thumbs Love the steps, looks very neat work.

Just a thought as you have taken over Sam's role (wonder where Sam is :hmm), you know changing the layout so many times i would not stick the scenery permanently just yet in case well you know change your mind again and rebuild the layout, ok i just go then :mutley:pedal.

Great job on those steps mate…they're full of character. So much better to make your own original items instead of buying mass-produced stuff.Working like this will make your layout so much more unique.
As for those bits at the edge of your ballasting where the tape has lifted, when its all dried out,I reckon a blob or two of UHU will flatten that out.
And don't you take any crap from these reprobates about your lack of scenery, etc. At the end of the day, your layout will be exactly what you want it to be,and I'm sure it'll be one of the best on this or any other forum!;-)

Well, I think those rustic steps are just the sort of thing you do see around old railway stations.  Don't be so modest about your scenery, Sol.  You forget some of us have actually seen your layout - anyway this is the place to get advice to lift your level; particularly with the fine details which make the difference.

As for talent, you must have forgotten the number of times you've helped me with computing issues and wiring questions.  :thud

Steps now in position with a handrail - again, not normally seen from this angle. Glue not dry yet so the white stands out.

The curved mainline to be ballasted and as it is 22" radius, it will be disguised with on overway bridge

which will be located where the is truck sitting across the track and coming from hills as depicted by the white plastic ice cream container

the road will curved towards the camera & continue onto the liftup in a down grade. It will give a scenic divide betwen the Barnstable shed & the storage tracks seen to the left.

Now while things are drying, back to wagon updates

Looks great now you have it place Ron those steps have gone in really well .

I like your stumped buffer i assume you chopped of the back section a a Peco buffer and used some plasticard or something for the 2 uprights.

I need to make some stumped ones like that for my diesal module.

Is the hill just to break the scenery or are the wagon yards non scenic?

The Peco shortend Buffer is just that - the long legs removed - it gives about an extra 1" available for yards.

The storage  tracks will be ballasted but I thought of the overpass not only to hide the sharper curve but give a break between  storage & the curved mainline & part of Barnstable.

Yes Owen, it should make that corner better, the other 4 are all curved as this corner was never intended to be visible before.

It does look good, I agree with Phill.  When you show the full extent with the sidings then we gain a clearer picture of the size of the whole thing.

That's some yard Ron and the steps look just like our stairs so there's always a prototype !!

I'm really enjoying watching this develop. Makes me go a funny shade of green !!!:cheers

Ron now i am a bit thick when it comes to running trains, as in i just let the things go and don't worry too much about speed etc but i was wondering. :hmm

When you do your running nights with your cards do you have set times for a Loco to get to say from point a to b or do you not need to worry too much about that?. Do you also have the speed they should be doing on the cards or is this pretty much a guess for that/

Also with the cards is the stabling yard where all your stock is kept taken into account as well?

One more thing bit much to ask but any chance of a video being taken on one of these nights when you use the cards so maybe i and others can see your layout in action as it should be.

Sorry to ask the above but im nosey and also intrigued about the card system.

No - it is a sequence  - if it takes one person 30 minutes & another 20 for the same train at a different Op session , I am not concerned.    Do you also have the speed they should be doing on the cards or is this pretty much a guess for that/  Again no but it could be done because 3 of the 6 controllers have a visual display but I leave it to the  driver
Also with the cards is the stabling yard where all your stock is kept taken into account as well? Yes

One more thing bit much to ask but any chance of a video being taken on one of these nights when you use the cards so maybe i and others can see your layout in action as it should be. That will take some time to set up as so far I find , even a 2 minute movie takes oodles of Mbs - may have to get Max up for that

Sorry to ask the above but im nosey and also intrigued about the card system. It is now on my list of things to do; a couple of wagons updates; a policy paper for the NMRA; build that overway bridge then work on updating this  thread  http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=4156&forum_id=6 using the revised card system

Keeping busy then Ron…

I too like the character of the steps, built in situ by the shed hand maybe.

Following on from The Bridge thread, this is it in position with a semi-shaped foam block behind it. This is part of the "scenery" phase - I will have to sit down after this bit of work :exclam

Like many of us , we have many jobs on the go at the same time - I consider that is spreading modelling abilities around  during the course of a day/week/month so this part will continue on slowly. Get the rest of the blocks in postion then onto some other aspect for a while.
