The Metcalfe slabs are my only real departure from plastic and they look good on your platform.
I too use PVA to hold them down.
The only problem (for me) is when figures need to be attached.

Look forward to the finished product - it has been quite a fast build.

Somewhere I saw figures fixed on a similar surface by drilling up the leg, inserting a cut-off pin and the pointed end pushed into the gaps at a join in the slabs.

Good work, Ron, and you must be on the tonic wine, pretty soon done.

Had a few hours off - been to a train meeting tonight - hopefully over the next few days, I will get it finished - I may bring the platform into the aircondioning as it is going to be bit warm in the RailRoom for a few days.

Fixing figures , I think a dab of Supa Glue should work, if not then the pin method sounds perfect.

All paved now 3'6"' of it - to be sprayed with varnish when things are cooler outside -( currently in the shade a touch over 45C, official is 41c)   the. weathered . Shown resting against inside house wall

and temporary in position - fencing, etc of course to be done

I don't think I will be doing this for Tawnton platform which will be about 6'6" - 7' long, fingers are still covered with PVA:exclam

It really does look good Sol. :thumbs

Did you find the slabs a fiddle to do ?  Whenever I've used them, my first couple of rows are great, then they seem to go off line a bit and look terrible.

The edging and support wall also look very, very good :cheers:cheers

Will you varnish the platform when it's removed to seal the underside edge or doesn't that really matter ?

Definitely a fiddle to do,  first few rows. nice, then you have to be very, very careful. Occasionaly I leave a larger space & cut a slab to fit.

The edging and support wall also look very, very good :cheers:cheers Thanks

Will you varnish the platform when it's removed to seal the underside edge or doesn't that really matter ? all visible surfaces & including undeneath near the main wall will be sprayed - I don't want ballast glue/water to give problems.

Alan, platform fencing for sure, a couple of low-relief/photos, etc of  trees hanging over the fence. Not having any real depth, I don't think I can even glue photos of buildings on there though it maybe possible to have a very low relief buiding 1/8th of an inch deep such as a water tank at the far end so it would be at least 2'6" - 3' away from observer so it may look OK.

Just resprayed with matt varnish & it takes away the PVA fingers on the platform surface - looks good, now some weathering powders in parts - but won't get much done today-  34C at 9.20AM already on its way to 43C.

That is looking good Sol. :doublethumb

I'll bear your technique in mind if / when I re-do the platform at Treheligan which continually gives problems in the warm weather.

On Post #81 ( page 5) of this thread, I described how I made a platform for the small warehouse/goods shed.

With the alterations in the trackwork at Barnstable, that platform was too narrow so keeping the stone wall, I stripped off the existing plattform surface

Using 2mm thick card, added edging as per Post #130 & then strips of Scalescenes platform slabs - had to be strips due to the curvature of the platform.

Added also from Scalescenes papers, the concrete ramp

All sprayed with matt varnish, some fencing to be added to stop the "workers" from falling off the edges after fitted to the location.

Fences made - post & rod. A set of steps required for the far end.

The ramp to be puttied in; ballasting next.

The overall position relating to Barnstable - the passenger platform will be to the right of the point.

Behind the buffer stop will be a hill & a road bridge ( the recent one in Hornby Mag for May) over the curved mainline coming down in front of the curved track .
