Station set on the North Norfolk coast.

Is painting track supposed to be relaxing?? Found myself dropping off after about 3' of track!!:thud

Also been practicing using some filler as an 'embedding'  material?

Your hand is a steady one Ron, even when the rest of you is dropping off!

The embedded track is certainly well and truly so. Presumably, one could texture the margins of the track, or even set features into the surface. Will this be concrete? I'm wondering if suitable scale cobbles could be set in, as I've a goods yard to cobble and not sure about textured plastic sheet.

Looing forward to your next stage :)

Speaking of adding texture to the 'embedding' of ground surface, I chose the method of using an air drying clay to infill around my track then using a small wire brush, tapping the surface to produce a rough texture, almost ballast like.

Yes, I can see it all now Ron and the filler sounds like a good plan. I particularly like the look of grimy working yards with a miscellany of ground objects and tufts of grass showing through the coal dust.

Happy modelling,

Hi Ron

it looks as if you are making rapid progress with your layout, well compared to me anyhow, I am still only half way along the station with mine.

Mind you I did waste a fair bit of time tracing a fault on my diamond crossing which worked perfectly one day and not a few days later, traced back to a broken wire in the sheath but all is now well. I hope your work continues to be trouble free and progress continues.

I'll leave you to all that thankless ballasting now, I usually do 10 minutes at the end of each modelling session and leave overnight to break the monotony.

Cheers for now

Hi Jim, not all plain sailing! Had to re-lay a corner using flexi track instead of set-track which all my loco's struggled with, OK now but a headache at the time!! Starting on the scenic side now and I like the idea of doing 10 minutes ballasting at the end of a day, good idea!!

10 minutes a day, helps you work, rest and play!

Apparently, so good luck Jim and Ron and may the boredom fairy not alight at your abodes.

Finally got the right bridge position and glued it down, sprayed it with matt varnish then realized I have not painted or ballasted the track underneath it!! Ah well, we live'n'learn! :):)

Thanks Tom, got a bit done this evening; grassed the top of the corner 'mound' and made a start on the bridge approach road.

Off to the Stamford Rail show on Saturday, hope to pick some scenic stuff up there!

Cheers

Hi Ron,

You've surely got the hang of the scenics. The mound looks good and blends into your back drop quite well.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Ron - it seems a pity to cover that rock face with scatter - can't you just paint it shades of grey and leave it as rock ?  It's got some nice strata lines ……………
