Station set on the North Norfolk coast.

Hi, I think the 'New Shed' thread has run it's course and I want to thank everybody that helped me through that part of the build.
But it is now time to build the layout and start a new thread.
I will add an introduction and photo's later today.

Intro:

The North Norfolk Railway offers a 10.5 mile round trip by steam train (vintage diesel trains on some journeys) through a
delightful area of North Norfolk designated as being of outstanding natural beauty. To the south are wooded hills and the
Norfolk beauty spots of Kelling Heath and Sheringham Park. To the north, the sea. All within easy walking distance from
the various stations.Enjoy a ride on an historic steam train - you can break your journey to look around the stations and marvel at the steam laden atmosphere from a bygone age. Weybourne station is mid way on the line and home to the loco and rolling stock workshops.

I chose this location the following reasons;
I know and love the area.
I can run what loco's and stock I like.
I don't need to run trains more than 4 or 5 coaches long.
I don't have to weather most of the stock!!

I plan to build a small terminus above the fiddle yard eventually and this will represent the station at Holt.

Hi Ron, I love the layout idea, will it be a preserved line? you can run what you like, or set in a time period? also may I make a suggestion? the photos you have posted of your track laid out where the station will be are all dead straight, on the photos the track has a gentle curve through the station which if you copied on the layout would, imho, look much more realistic! Anyhoo just a thought.

I thought about that Pete and will wait till I have all the track actually laid out on the board then 'play about' with it and see what I can achieve! (I have straight platforms already built but I could make some more curved if need be!!)
I'm also adding 2 sidings with a goods shed for more operating potential!!

Looks good Ron.  One comment: it looks to me as if the baseboards are joined as one continuous baseboard and are permanently fixed to the shed walls.  If this is the case, what happens when you move house or, heaven forbid, you suddenly 'shuffle off this mortal coil' (to quote Hamlet), and the layout has to be dismantled? Will it be possible to dismantle the layout without damage? Just food for thought.

Hi Terry,
The boards are screwed to a batten around the walls and each section has it's board, we won't be moving I'm pretty sure of that and if I'm not here anymore then I won't worry about that either!:):)

Ron, I hope neither will be the case for a long time.  However, I have known a number of examples where, upon the owner's demise, the only way to move the layout was to smash it up. It's tragic to see all that hard work and often excellent modelling end up in a skip.  That's why I always advocate that EVERY layout should be free-standing and capable of being easily dismantled into separate boards.

I understand what you mean but think I'm well past altering the baseboards now! If I do 'shuffle off' I'll tell the wife to donate the layout to the club and leave you to unscrew it all!! OK? :):):)

It's the "wooded hills" I'm struggling with - I thought Norfolk was as flat as the proverbial pancake …………….:???::???::???:

Hi Peter, inland it is, Norfolk Broads etc but the North coast from Hunstanton in the West to Cromer on the North east corner is quite hilly, wooded and has a cliff face towards the sea! Kelling Heath is well forested and is where we take our caravan, it is also a 'dark site' for astronomy! Stars and steam at the same place keeps me happy day and night! :):)

Hi Ron,

When the hinged section is up, just place of 2 x 2 or appropriately sized timber between the under side of the vertical hatch and the timber bearing that it rests on when in the down position. Very low tech but effective enough.

Hope you can understand what I mean.
