The green of the Dapol signals I can tolerate, but the real gaff is in the Distant signals, where they have used red and green lenses instead of yellow and green.
The GWR Penhayle Bay distant had yellow / green lenses. The current image supplied by Dapol for retailer’s use shows yellow / green in the SR distant.

That's good to know. Too late for me, but they must have responded to feedback.

Oh dear. Something has broken down. The 350hp (class 08) shunter deals with a recalcitrant 2-HAL unit while a 2-EPB has been found to continue the service. A contrast in greens as we were discussing. They should be the same.

In anticipation of Easter weekend being busier than usual the local train was strengthened from 2 to 4-car today. The appearance of an ex-works 2-EPB unit in blue was a surprise.  The amount of passenger traffic offerring at Waddlemarsh Halt barely justified the longer train.

It’s been a bit quiet in the goods yard over Easter but tonight things started to pick up for the week ahead.

D8011 arrived from Stratford with a rake of vans and paused before enteting yard limits to await the shunter’s instructions

Admitted to the yard the “chopper” stopped ready to run round with its train clear of the crossover which can just be seen ahead of the loco. There will be a wait until that freight on the far road leaves however.  To its left is an empty tank rake also just arrived, this time from Cricklewood and bound for Fawley for refilling at the refinery.

A general view of the yard with the gantry crane, goods shed and several trains present.

Ooh look. A “North British”.

Early “Warship” D602 heads back to its Western Region home on a freight in a view which shows the track layout at the yard entrance to advantage.

And someone’s home in the shunter’s hut if the bike is anything to go by.

On the coal road the M7 is about to “get the bag in”

At the station the passenger service is worked by a 2-Bil unit today

While in new work a path has been made between station, staff accommodation, signal box and the goods line starting signal

The kettle looks nice Rick.  :thumbs

Just a question on practicality ………………

When one weathers stock, do you remove the wheels first or clean them afterwards ?  It will be the latter for powered stock but how would one clean (and paint for that matter) the wheels on DCC stock ?  You can't upend them and use a 9v battery to turn them……………………….   I'm thinking of airbrushing rather than powders here …………..:hmm

In terms of practicality I normally weather with the wheels in situ but I use powders, ink and washes rather than airbrushing.

If you do the wheels first it should be possible to invert the loco in a servicing cradle and apply power by means of something such as a Peco wheel-cleaner or other contrivance.  If you can arrange that such that you have both hands free for the airbrush then off you go with wheels turning.

For non-powered items I generally have a brush laden with wet weathering powder - which acts like paint but dries nicely matt - and rotate the wheels with one hand whilst applying weathering with the other.

Cleaning isn't too hard and isn't even necessary in all cases.  Careful application to the wheel face can mean there is no over-spray onto the rim.

Thanks Rick.  I'll see what I can knock together for a DCC power feed.  As I said, with DC I used to use a 9v battery but, only having 2 hands, I haven't found anything suitable on DCC.  Your suggestion of something like the Peco wheel cleaner is a good starting point.  :thumbs

You could temporarily enable DC running.

Cheers Pete.

Sacrilege it may be but at least 6167 was a Southall loco and lasted until 1965 making it a reasonable fit for cross-London work in the early to mid-sixties.  In theory at least ;-) as I don't have any record of such a working. They were generally used on Thames Valley local work until the arrival of the Pressed Steel (class 117) DMU fleet around 1960 and after that were relegated to freight, parcels, empty stock and shunting duties.

No doubt it's still the wrong shade of green for some among us!

Being hyper-critical Rick, shots like this do highlight the over tight curves we have to use.  Much better (IMHO) to take your shots where the track is straighter.

Having said that - a lovely looking (for GWR that is  ) interloper and coach.   :thumbs

Oh. It’s all dirty :mutley

It’s also got etched number plates fitted and coal instead of plastic in the bunker.
