Somewhere SW of London. Somewhen before today

Waddlemarsh is this week’s featured layout in the Kernow MRC newsletter. With thanks to their team it has been described as “an amazing use of space”
https://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/pg/94/Customer-Layouts

Meanwhile this image has been described as “A really great atmospheric industrial picture” by a Facebook user.

Give me a chance!  It's almost five years since Penhayle Bay closed and the book of that layout is still in preparation :mutley

Hi Alan. I am sorry about my ignorance on the subject of puzzles, but would you please advise me “ where do I find the puzzles and what do they involve “ . Best wishes Kevin

Wow!  Some wonderful, patient and detailed modelling, Rick.  So many details to look at, and I like the way you have put your own, realistic twist on common features - like the angles of the paving outside the pub - which all add to the authenticity.
As a child I lived in a house pretty much like these, and well remember the concrete fencing - although all of our gardens had a wooden fence in front of it to disguise it.  Pointless really, as my parents hid the wooden fence with climbing plants which they could have done to the concrete one!

Treated myself. I have been after a CMX cleaner for ages. It would have saved a lot of work cleaning Penhayle Bay’s 100-plus metres of track!

Either they weren’t available or they were too expensive for available funds when I looked.

No longer. This beauty arrived today and is already keeping the rails at Waddlemarsh clean and shiny.

One of my Heljan class 07 shunters has been eqipped with a Kadee at one end to run with the cleaner.

Hi Rick. As I have only got a plank, or two, I went for a cheaper version from a famous model shop. Really though I shouldn’t have bothered, the filling hole is tiny and that leaves me to wet the fabric directly.which is good for me being a tight wad .   Best wishes Kevin

Those CMX cleaners are great Rick.  Regarding "value for money" - I do wonder but I haven't found anything to match them elsewhere.

Does your Heljan Class 07 pull it OK ?  I think I said on another thread that I used a US outline GP 40 to pull mine…….all wheel drive and quite a heavy loco.

They are good, aren't they. But I, too, was wondering whether the 07 will have enough traction to pull or push the cleaner on its own.

It turns out that the 07 does not have enough power to move the CMX. Exit shunter - the next option is the mighty Heljan parcel DMU. The one which happily hauled 36 carriages on a Penhayle Bay demonstration run.

Aaah that's more like it. DP1 or a class 45 pushes mine round.

Cheers Pete.

Tiny steps kit-bashed to the required configuration from Ancorton’s signal-box steps kit.  Each step is separately cut and fitted.

Nice steps Rick and even nicer weathering to it all.  You've obviously had your nose (and eyes) very close to Southern Region concrete !!  It looks so real.  :thumbs

To save me looking, do Ancorton produce a range of steps or just these for their signal box kit Rick ?  They do look good and strong and not too fiddly to build I'd guess ……………….. :hmm

The kits are laser-cut matchwood so brittle but easy to cut, rub down and assemble. You do need a steady hand and the ability to manage very small parts with both hands is an advantage.  I found it necessary to hold two parts together with tweezers in both hands for the few seconds it took the glue to bond.

There are a few other stepped kits as they offer a couple of footbridges. Mine is kit OOS-M3 which has sufficient parts to build two flights of steps. They are designed to fit a sigbalbox but can be adapted, as I have done, for other situations. You even get a couple of spares for the smallest parts.

Busy scene at a near-complete Waddlemarsh Halt as passenger trains pass, a freight arrives and the yard shunter stands ready to deal with it.
