Early construction of a simple 00 garage layout

CMX is the way to go, however, I had to buy a 37xx Diesel to pull it as my steam locos struggle
I’ll have a look into the CMX. Something a little more reliable than the dapol would be appreciated!

Michael I got these with the bridge from Scale Model Scenery for the harbour scene. Going to be fiddly but they’ll look great!

I bet they’d look good on your harbour too!

I wasn't going to mention the size of the tractor required to tow it until he'd bought it Phil - I didn't want to put him off !

I too have a loco dedicated to it - mine's a US outline GP38 - not at all prototypical but quite heavy and all-wheel-drive.  :thumbs

They're expensive Chris but great cleaners.

I don’t think so but they are ever expanding their range. They are based on the Cornish coast and that influences a lot of their kits. Normally I think their kits are great, but the humped back bridge is brilliant! Within 5 minutes I have something that looks like a bridge. So much design must have gone into it allowing the various sections to bend as required.

All that is left is to add the details as required.

Ah!  Yes I  have seen those, along with some other quay side pieces.  Get making them then, so I can see just how fiddly they are!    ;-)

Yes the CMXs do need some grunt, but they do the job. I always push mine with a diesel, usually the DP1.

Cheers Pete.

The CMX is cheaper than I thought. Cheaper than the Dapol one! Can you change the couplings?

Fiddly! That is definitely the word! I decided to go slow and steady, so tonight I cut and stuck the outside netting. It recommendeds to let it dry throughly before attempting to stick them to the base and then wrap the top.

I sense a mutiny coming to the boil from the Teasel Bay area after that comment.

Cheers Pete.

The couplings are attached direct to the chassis. I think it would be possible to make an extension to fit a TL if that's what you're thinking of.

I'd be interested to know where one can be got cheaper than the Dapol one as I have a friend who's been thinking about one but baulks at the price.

Cheers Pete.

The lobster pot build looks great. I have to say Scale Model Scenery are really creating a great detailing range. I have registered on their other site which lets you download as much stuff as you want for self printing for no additional charge once you have paid the annual fee.

I might have googled the wrong thing… but the well known auction site has them for £42, which is cheaper than the Dapol which was at around £80 + a decoder!

I was hoping you'd say they had NEM pockets so I could easily swap them. How would you change the coupling to fit UK locos?

Not at all, the more people that buy from them the more diverse the range gets and hopefully will include more harbour accessories

I agree. They are a very good resource. They won specialist modeler of the year, I guess for that reason.

When I bought mine it came with KD type couplings loose in the pack.  I can't remember now but I think there was also  a TL coupling in the box - I bought mine from a UK supplier. These were to be screwed onto the bogies - all fittings supplied.  I think I planned to set it up with the KD at one end and the TL at the other  In practice, that didn't happen and I just use the KDs and the GP 38 loco.

I would be very suspicious of anyone selling one for £42 - they're worth a lot more than that.  Mine was over £100 a few years ago.

Looking around, the CMX is around £165, which sounds about right.
