Early construction of a simple 00 garage layout

I’ve finally managed to get back into the garage after a few weeks away from it. The first thing I noticed was how quickly it gets dark outside now. In June I could do two hours, finish at 9 and then enjoy a drink (or two) in the garden with the wife!

Anyway, modelling…  I found a Union Flag which is made by Woodland Scenics, in the model shop in Bourton on the Water. A beautiful place and great little shop.

It comes with an LED spotlight to light it up at night, which is when I think it really comes alive.

While I was behind the station, I finally wired up the station car park lights which have been sat in place for nearly a year….

Then I sat back and enjoyed the view! Hope you are all well and like the photos.

Great photos. The night shots certainly add to the scene.

A lot of lamp posts there, Chris.  They look great, I really like your night time shots - very atmospheric.
Sadly the nights are definitely drawing in… summer is over!

I like the flag and it's the right way up, unlike the one printed in the Daily Express a few days ago.

Hi Chris     The terrain featured on your Teasel Bay from is of interest to me, Woodland Scenics. Just two important questions is it heavy? Oh and does it adhere to plywood that has been painted because it may just work on the scenic break on my Inglenook Junction. Best wishes Kevin

Hey Kevin, nice to hear from you. I use excluded polystyrene which is shaped and glued in place. This is covered in Sculptamold, which sticks to anything (it’s a very find paper mache). My technique is completely stolen by Luke from Railroad Creak, who has some outstanding videos on you tube. Good luck with your terrain, there are so many ways to do the same thing.

Hi Chris.    Thank you for your reply. But you didn’t mention the weight of the finished product, which is important to my project as I had intended it to be portable. Nice idea though. Best wishes Kevin

I haven't weighed it tbh.. The foam weighs near enough nothing but the bag of Scuplatmold is about 1kg but you'll only be using a thin layer. It is a mix of paper fibres and plaster of paris so is probably one of the lightest materials to use.

It is used on all of Rail Road Creek's dioramas, which he moves around reasonably easily. .

Liking the night shots Chris, really adds to the atmosphere. Those videos look good as well, he makes it look easy which may encourage those who haven't, to give it a try  :thumbs
PS glad you escaped major damage in the garage from the flooding, At first I thought you had got carried away with the resin cast for the beach scene !!!   :It's a no no

Cheers

Matt

Wasnie me, a big boy did it and ran away

Thanks Matt. I think I got off lightly. Can only image what it would be like for people who have a river flowing through their house! Just dreadful. Glad you like the shots, can’t have enough lights I say!!

Micheal builds houses between posts, I just paint some posts!

Repeating my technique of chalk paint to bulk out the laser cut railings.

I also painted the beach huts. The price per hut is now priced at £60,000, get bidding quick as there are only two available!!

Nice posts!  Super beach huts too…. they are very trendy properties at some of our local beaches, but they don't look as good as yours!

Hi Chris.     Excellent. I like the cyclist, very good colour scheme, pity that I would have to start another layout including a road just to accommodate a cyclist 🚴‍♂️. Best wishes Kevin PS Just in case I do build another layout? Where would I get my hands on one.

Thanks Kevin, it is the Magnorail system. It is pretty straight forward to do but does take a lot of planning and would be difficult to retrofit due to the bed of the chain requiring to be under the road surface.  The Faller system would e easier to retrofit but you can't have a cyclist.

The details are here: https://www.magnorail.com/en. At the time of writing there are no UK suppliers, I had to purchase it through a french model shop and have it shipped but this didn't cause any issues.

Hi Chris.  Thank you again. With my track record I had better finish the three planks that I have already started.       Best wishes Kevin

Excellent progress Chris - it's looking really like summer at the seaside.  Love the beach huts and the cyclist adds that extra dimension to the scene although she needs to change up a gear and pull her skirt down a bit ……………. .

Thanks. She is a little bit indecent if you look straight on! The boys like to race her around the sea wall, she is pretty nippy then!
