Early construction of a simple 00 garage layout

Wow. That must have been one sturdy shed! Bet it had a strong smell too?

Just one from me tonight. The local service has just received the green flag to depart as an Intercity service speeds through.

Not much exciting work to post on here, just painting and weathering various areas of the bay. Spent most of the weekend camping in the garden which was fun.

That looks great, Chris.  I do like an evening/night time scene, with the lights.  Am very much looking forward to seeing the development of the bay….

Well tonight was one of those nights where it was a write off!
I tried to put a driver into the little seat on the 125, found this impossible! After multiple attempts and seeking extra help from the wife, I gave up only to crush the decoder wires when I put the body back on. I’ve had to gently cut and expose the core and solder them back together. Tested it works but I’ve run out of insulation tape to finish the job.

Given up for tonight!  Time for a beer… :Happy

Got a delivery or some Epoxy Resin today, something that fills me with excitement and fear in equal measure.

Once I've finished setting up the beach area, which is getting close now, its time to pour the resin! I've watched quite a few videos on the subject now, mainly from Luke from RailRoad Creak. He makes it look effortless, which I doubt my attempt will be anything but!…

I watched similar if not the same vidoes on mixing and pouring resin. I have to say it turned out not as difficult as I was expecting provided you are careful. My only main problem, with two separate rivers and a stream to pour, was how much to mix in one go. I found the stuff I used worked well with reasonably thin, multiple layers but the advice to make sure it is covered as soon as it is poured made all the difference. That did help with the "oohps I haven't got enough to cover the whole river" problem!

Looking forward to seeing the results - what, if anything, are you using for the top surface to give it ripples or waves. I used ModPodge spread thinly then blown with an airbrush.

Hi Chris
Has the warm weather delayed progress, or do you have a lovely beach and cool sea to enjoy in this heatwave.  I noticed you are going to colour the resin, so will be interested to see how you do that.

Hey, I have been doing some bits, but they are mainly repetitive tasks or just small incremental improvements which I don't think anyone would be interested in.  Due to the heat and lack of airflow in the garage, sitting in the garden with a suitable beverage and satellite/meteor/hedgehog watching has taken precedence.

I also ordered a few bits to finish off my beach before I do the resin pour but I accidentally sent them to the office… so I need to wait until its open to collect.. oops. I hope you are doing well, the heat putting you off too?

Hi - yes, the loft is a bit warm - but two weeks away meant the garden needed a bit if care, so that has taken precedence.  Have managed to work on a model downstairs though, will get it finished soon.

Yikes Chris, that's getting too close for comfort and reminds me of your boxfile layout!

I'm sure you have a plan though, so wont need to panic.

Bon courage,

Bill

Well it stopped and receded, and then came back with a vengeance!!

All the electronics are high, I’m going to have to take out the carpets and dry/air them.

You can see where I lifted the layout slightly with an off cut of wood, but it easily surpassed it and the one on the cupboards…

Jeepers!  That is a lot of rain!  Not the sort of water effect you were planning, I suspect.  I hope the rest of your house is ok - and that the rain stays away so you can get the garage clear and dry.

That looks frightening Chris and I'd seriously be looking to get some sandbags to safeguard all those garage contents, as if this can happen in the summer, you may need them again come the autumn/winter.

I remembered these at Screwfix, https://www.screwfix.com/c/safety-workwear/flood-management/cat6690004?cm_sp=managedredirect-_-safetyworkwear-_-sandbags

Hope your weather improves soon.

Fingers crossed,

Bill

Unfortunately the drain had got slightly blocked coupled with a rather heavy rainfall. We’ve had at least a week of normal rain in about half an hour! My neighbour has access to some drain rods so the drain has been cleared.
Luckily no lasting damage, will be a few days to dry out before we are up and running again…

Ah, a good result then and thank goodness your layout is safe. You never know just how useful drain rods are until you've had to use them. Fortunately, I've not had to use mine for a couple of years now and long may it be so.

Happy runnings,

Bill

So after a few days of tidying and giving the carpets a ‘holiday’ in the sun the garage is cleaner than ever!

I can hopefully get back to modelling now!!

That is a very smart, tidy railway room.  I manage to get mine to look similar when I can't move around or find anything for all the clutter, and I promise myself to keep everything ordered and tidy, but it never happens.  Glad t see the water has gone!
