I am however being entertained by the Nintendo breed of switch!

During today's meeting I painted the boat skeleton which will be "sunk" into the sand.

How about steps mk2?

Even Mick the resident painter approves

I really like the white look of the cardboard. I wasn’t planning on white for the stones, but I think Ill paint them up white!

The boat is super, it really looks like aged wood.  The capping looks good too - white will be a nice seaside colour too.

That's a big improvement Chris - much closer to the scale of the wall.   :thumbs

Glad everyone approves! I've just realised I need to repeat this the whole distance of the sea wall. That will take a while, but will finish it off nicely.

Last night saw the return to service of a well known controller. I had mine 20 years ago controlling the layout in my bedroom. Since I decided to go down the DCC path (you can just see the eLink controller in the top right of the photo below) it has lay dormant under Teasel Bay until now. Still held together by coloured insulation tape! The green controller was always my preferred one, and still is……

I've laid the track and temporarily screwed down a few pieces until I'm confident there aren't any issues. Each of the blue links of the chain requires breaking off the mould and filing for smooth running, so takes a little time.

Finished last night by test running the chain slowly which seemed to go nicely. Until the surface sits on top the chain has a tenancy to jump out, which takes a couple of minutes to reset.

I bet it will still be working in another 40…. Where as I like the way DDC has opened up some amazing extras, you can't help but admire the simplicity and longevity of the older models/controllers.

What are you going to use as a surface for the magnorail, Chris?  I know that they advise against plastic, but there are some examples of people who have used it.  I used thin card for mine, which I painted and then gave a few thin coats of matt varnish (brushed on, not sprayed) to seal the paint in, and that has worked well.  I figured that if it develops a noticeable track mark, I can always repaint and varnish in the future.

I've seen advice from others to use photo paper with the glossy slide chain down. At the moment I'm unsure about the joins and I still need to add a 8mm support for the surface. If it doesn't work then I'd be open for other ideas!
I'm intrigued now, what do you have running on yours? I don't remember picking up on it on your thread, are there any photos or better still videos?

Hi Chris.  I have the cyclists too.  They pedal around in front of the hotel - where the trees are.  I have a video of when I first had it running, before I finished off the scenery.  I'll try and find the link, but it is in my thread on p18.

Looks great! I like the lady in the rain coat, might have to source that one for a rainy day!  I've got the ice cream man for nice days!
I'm worried about the joins of the card catching, did you have an issue with this?

As my route is a circuit, I bought a large sheet of card - probably A2 size, which I cut to size and shape so that there were no joins.  Long thin routes are likely to be trickier.

I’ll try out the photo card. I need to source something from my supplies if possible to support it first. If not I’ll have to measure it’s length, which is probably around 1 metre.
My local model shop Great Eastern Models is open again for delivery and click and collect. Woo. :Happy

Hi Chris

Have a look at Everard Junction on You Tube where Richard uses this system and took it to its limits.  There is a video ni his playlists dedicated to the installation which might be helpful.

Ah great idea Barry. I have watched that one in the past but I’ll re-watch it to see if I can get some good tips. Thanks

I actually stepped foot in my local model shop. They are offering VIP 1-2-1 service, you get the whole shop to yourself.  It is normally a pretty busy shop, but they said they are doing really well with online orders, so that is great to hear.

Finally got a test section to test the magnorail system.  It isn't yet stuck down so there is a wobble.  Watching the video suggested above gave me a few good ideas for the final surface. Anyhow here is a short video of it in action.

Excellent Chris - I can't see a wobble in the video.  Beautifully made and painted cyclist too.
