Hi Chris.    When I took the bodyshell off the chassis of my Bachmann 416 to fit the decoder, that was the easy part of the job. But then I had the idea of passengers, and that is where my enthusiasm waned? With so many questions about figures, which ones? Which paint? Which glue? What a pest! It may be better/ quicker if I forget about passengers, but whilst I have got the top off?  Best wishes Kevin 

Hey Kevin. Nice to see you back posting! The figures are just a standard pack of Bachmann sitting passengers so came pre-painted. As for glue, just a teeny bit of pva to stop them travelling! I use pva for nearly every job. I’ve used super glue on one occasion I think….. I go with if pva doesn’t hold it, I’ll try something else, so far everything is fine!

It must be getting close to spring… I’ve started work planting Racheal's field of tulips!

His field changes with the seasons! All the tulips of last year were stored. I’ve bought a few more packs of for this year, so there should be even more colour!

I cut up some hard fabric and cover it with some pva/soil and it becomes reasonably rigid and follows the contours of the field.  From that, so far I've setup the tulips and a pumpkin patch). I plan to have the field being ploughed with seagulls etc and a sea of sunflowers.

I like the idea of at least areas of the layout being themed to season, the station gets a Christmas makeover for example!

Can't wait for this Chris - I've never seen seagulls ploughing a field ……………………. :pedal

Haha. Brilliant! Just checking to see anyone was reading!!!

Tulips being prepared before planting! I've bought a few new boxes since last year to get an richer field.  I need to do a little more paining as I don't like the dark purple ones as they are pretty dull! I'll repaint these to a mixture of red, yellow, yellow/orange or the pink variety!


One lesson learnt from last year is that the tulips need pruning, as when Farmer Jack went to inspect them they went up to his waist, so this year each one is getting clipped before being planted!

Yesterday a special coach pulled in to Teasel Bay. It is a community coach which travels layouts, is signed and posted on.  After a delay in the post office it finally arrived at Teasel Bay.

If you want it to visit your layout, join the group and express your interest join the group https://www.facebook.com/groups/504994427034920/.  The coach has already visited some great layouts and so far been to France.  Perfect bit of fun for when we are all staying in doors more….

My youngest son had something similar going on at his primary school.  Except it was a teddy bear that got passed on and you had to take photographs of it out and about with you.  Unforgivably it brought out the competitive side in me!!  It's a great idea and I am glad Teasel  Bay was a host.

Tonight I’m ‘genetically’ modifying tulips!










I’ve never been a fan of the dark purple ones. They didn’t show up well last year. So each one is being repainted!

Painstaking work Chris, but it will be worth it.  I agree about the darker flowers, I had to have them in clusters or they just got lost.  I haven't done a repaint!!
Ah! I understand your PM now - I have been searching Faversham Forums for something about a coach….. Dumb or what?  I think the layout will have to develop a little more before I can play host.  Hopefully I will have an update soon.
