Early construction of a simple 00 garage layout

Looking good! Is that some type of dam across the top of the river?

MartinOfSweden may have made the you tube video but the technique has been around for a while, I used it on this water a while back.

It also works for other landscape such has plowed fields if painted in suitable tones, and obviously no varnish.

End of Hijack…

Is that your work Andy? That looks great, the last photo is so realistic! The varnish really brings out the waves.

I think I am going to take a different approach and use epoxy to try and give a slight transparent feel which you get on the beach.

Yes its all my own work, including the scratch built Clyde Puffer (mainly card).

The thing with water unless its in the shade what you usually see when looking at it is the reflection of light from above.

That is some really nice work.  The last photo is really realistic! Do you have any more photos of it in situ on the layout?

Lovely modelling, very realistic, the icing on the cake would be some white highlights here and there where the water splashes against the harbour wall and also around the boat and maybe a few tips of the waves?

There is actually some white highlights on the tips of some waves and around the bow of the boat, they don't show up too well in the photo, I didn't want to over do it, so I may look at it again in the future.

Its just a drop in on the layout at the moment so the is no scenery around it yet.

The picture below shows the cut out for it and below that in position before I had done the water.

How about Wonderwall - Oasis, Chris?  Or Climbing Up the Walls - Radiohead?  (Which you will be, by the time you have finished that lovely wall!
I've rather given away my taste in music I think!

Wall finally completed and weathered.

Hope it look worth the effort, remind me not to start a new one anywhere else….!

Farmer Jack is not happy as it seems the local youth have decided to knock down part of the wall to gain access to a quiet place to drink. He will be reporting the matter to the local plod.

I finally got the courage to take the top off the 156.

Added a driver I got from West Hill Wagon Works.

As well as people in the carriages from a pack of Bachman sitting passengers.

Each one had to loose some weight before they’d fit! Nothing a little filing couldn’t sort!

Good  job Chris!  That is a job which looms in the near future for me too.  Once in position, do you notice the legs of the figures?  I ask because I was thinking of cutting them off completely, thinking it might speed up production.

Thanks for the comment Michael, I'll post a pic of them in the carriage when I get a chance.  I bought coach sitting passengers, so they don't have most of their legs anyway! As the Realtrack model is quite detailed I had to reduce them a little around the arm rests.

Unfortunately Teasel Bay has been a little neglected in the last month, with the boss insisting on kitchen/dinning room decorating and the garage being covered in bits that usually live there…  The rest of the time I've been working on my A4 boxfile which is coming on nicely! I'll post some photos of that once its been entered to the competition!

Don't think so Chris, I started my little 140cm x 25cm (roughly 4' 7" x 9 3/4") 009 plank over a year ago, and it's still not finished

It looks good Chris and fear not - it's taken me about 6 months to fit a few point motors and I still can't run trains !!!

I think speed is overrated as one gets older, as I no longer 'feel the need for speed' and am even selling my quickest car, made more palatable having obtained a slow, but lovely Austin 7 Sports.

It's good though being able to choose, within reason, how to occupy free time and I really appreciate the unhurried immersion which railway modelling provides.

The time to reflect is rather satisfying, particularly when engaged in developing new modelling skills, whereas the good results spur you on to even more gratifying projects.

Happy modelling,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

I now have a lot more admiration for layouts and the amount of time people pour into them. It’s amazing how much time you can spend on something a casual observer and dismiss in seconds!

Here’s to the next three years of Teasel Bay, hopefully she’ll get her bay this year! At least that’s the plan anyhow!!!
