Early construction of a simple 00 garage layout

Hi Chris.   I must admit I do prefer to see the Trains paying their way, but I am put off by the passengers going into depots etc. Matt had a good idea with Hi Vi vests. I was pleased with the appearance of the “ Modelu Guard “ in comparison to the Chinese figures, but the Guard disappeared in the Railway room? I have written to Modelu to replace the Guard, but I may have to consider locking him away? Maybe a crew for a Loco or two? Modelu figures do look like a good idea for depot scenes, or maybe a Signal Man.If I ever get my cabin built?  With the splendid nameplate in position.  Best wishes Kevin

Hi Chris Driver, Fireman and Guard, it’s okay to spend money on the train staff, even the odd fire lighters or cleaner with his oily rag. In fact anyone in the line of promotion. Then you can have a good depot team as well. Best wishes Kevin 

You might be asking, “Chris, why haven’t you been doing updates at Teasel Bay recently!?”
Well firstly, I’m lazy and after a busy day being a couch potato in the evenings can be quite appealing and secondly since around April I’ve been job searching. A slow search to find the right opportunity after over 15 years in my current company but I was successful and next week I’m done. Hurrar! Start my new job on the 1st November. 

Hopefully that means I can refocus on Teasel in the evenings! To celebrate I’ve ordered a Bachmann BR Blue Class 08 from my favourite model shop. Brand new, they found it in their store room. Eventually the plan is for it to be the station pilot for Norcott station.

I do have my eye on the two tone green Class 47 from Bachmann thought! That looks very smart.

Yep - I've got one of those Chris, fiited with a sound chip.  A good heavy loco which runs sweet as a nut.

Nice. I go through phases with sound where I think its great, and then I just like the piece and quiet! haha.

On attempting to fit the decoder to the Class 08 I bought from Great Eastern Models, I found that my small screwdrivers were not small enough. It seems I needed something out of a cracker to get the screw out! Onto Amazon to buy a teeny screwdriver!


Yesterday I installed the decoder, I haven’t fitted the stay alive yet as I need to drill into the cab and fit in there due to lack of space. 






After running it in I got it into service returning some empty tanks back to the refinery. It is a very nice model as it’s geared to be nice and slow.

I don’t like taking locomotives apart, but I’ve done it and installed the stay alive. It makes a massive difference to how smooth it runs!


I watched a video on how to remove the cab, drilled a tiny hole for the wiring and glued the capacitors to the top of the cab with the wires running around the window.

It’s the Bachmann example. 

Hi Chris.  Thank you for your reply. I thought that bachmann were more reliable, but was it 0-4-0 which caused the unreliability ? I was working on an extra pickup on a wagon but didn’t know how to wire the Loco to the wagon. Best wishes Kevin

I would say it’s mainly down to how clean I keep the track over the engine….. as the layout is in the garage no matter how often I clean the track and the trail wheels the trains can splutter!

In the real world, we are taking part in a pumpkin trail where people can wonder around the estate looking at different displays. 






And in the model world Farmer Jack is busy selling his pumpkins. Be quick if you want one there aren’t many left!

When I take things apart I try to take time to ensure I know where things went. It isn’t always easy. Il. Place things in a shape which represents where the my came from, with screws etc!

I do t think you are the only one with the problem!

As you disassemble take pictures on your phone or tablet. When your reassembling and your little grey cells have gone off for a nap you have a great visual aid to remind you where bits go  :thumbs

Sensible advice Matt - and advice I wish I'd taken as I try to reassemble the valve gear on a split chassis V1 loco I'm in the process of converting to DCC.

Fortunately, I have one of Bachmann's later V3 locos which I hope will help me …..
