I'll bring the milk :mutley

Not entirely your fault Aaron, with that detailing of that class 31 :mutley

I keep remembering something Max posted ages ago when we were discussing insulfrog points on someone's thread, somewhere. Basically, he said he didn't run 0-4-0s and 0-6-0s and therefore didn't have problems with locos stalling across the points.

Seems logical and with all the problems I've had recently with insulfrogs in my particular garage environment, also seems to make perfect sense.

Then there's Ron heritage layout which enables him to run anything, and the pictures other members have posted of detailed modern image locos which look brilliant.

Anyway, I've won a Hornby R.589 Class 86 Bo-Bo 'Post Haste' and I'm invoking Rule 1 :mutley

(PS I do enjoy a challenge)

Addendum

Just realised I can't entirely dispense with 0-6-0s as I'll need to buy a Gronk

Ah Hah…..Murphy was right !!!!
Listen Ed old mate……heritage or preserved is the way to go for your railway…….you can justify running anything you like. Stock can be on loan to the railway for example for heritage specials. That`s what I intend to do with my set up. A bit like the Keighley and Worth Valley set up where you can catch a BR train to Keighley (GCJ in my case) and change over to the KWVR for heritage trains to Oakworth etc. ( Little B/field & B/ford in my case).I feel it really removes a lot of restrictions that we could impose upon ourselves and actually provides a lot more possibilities especially if you are going to run to schedule. I intend to do that but the compilation of the schedule is rather daunting at this stage.

Used to work for the company that brewed and distributed that in the UK, Gormo.

Not keen myself, but my Dad used to buy Guinness in the winter and was quite happy when I started getting a free case of Murphys and a fee case of Stella every month :mutley

Ah, those were the days.

Here we are talking about beer (ok stout) and I've only just had me breakfast

Getting back to the railway, the ballast is nearly dry and I might get platform 2 back soon :pedal

It's Ok Gormo, ballast isn't quite dry and it's now back to looking at the various threads on scratch building OLE.

If nothing else, this hobby is certainly diverse

Electric locomotive for the modernisation of the line.

Didn't run when I got it, but the contacts on the pantograph switch were a little dirty and it works fairly well now.

Needs a bit more of a service before I install a decoder.

Now I couldn't go to all the trouble of building catenary for one loco, so ……………………..

Shame they're not BR Blue.

Fair Dinkum Ed,
You`re going over to the dark side….:mutley
That`s a nice looking loco and I`m sure you`ll sort the maintenance and she`ll be running sweet. Does it have pick ups or does it pick up through the axles. I`ve found current going through the axles sometimes requires the wheel set being removed and the axles and housings wiped clean to achieve electrical integrity. Could also be worth double checking the wire to the pantograph for electrical integrity.??
Just a suggestion……been there and done that with wheels and wires etc. on older / second hand locos. You probably have too.????
:cheers  gormo

I've taken the pantograph out of the equation on this loco Gormo, as my OLE will be cosmetic.

The pick up wire from the trailing bogie now goes straight to the motor.

Picks up through the axles, so I'll give a good service when the weather's a bit better.

Now I've tested them both they're back in their boxes while I think about some masts and catenary etc.

I thought I'd finally finished re-ballasting the station and I put platform 2 back temporarily to check.

Looks like I missed a bit (red).
