Branch Line - Roundy, roundy with some shunting

Bit of an enforced break anyway as the replacement point didn't turn up until yesterday and I've done nothing with it.

I did however get the laptop to start working. Don't now how or why, but it now boots every time.

Of course this was only after I'd finally got it to boot once and had taken the opportunity to format the hard disk prior to taking it to the dump :thud

Must of been the threat of ending up in the dump made it start working again :mutley

A replacement Digitrax decoder turned up this morning and I've put it in the Deltic and it runs perfectly, so I've got a Hattons own brand decoder as a spare, which isn't a bad thing.

I've also got the Wifi Camera's Windows software working, using Wine compatibility layer software in Ubuntu 14.04, so not an entirely wasted few days.

Might try sorting out the new point for the station throat at the week-end.

Onwards and upwards, as they say.

Hi Ed,

The break was probably needed. Now you have the gear you need, one step at a time and it'll come together for you. Great news with the laptop as well.

Cheers for now

It's not really been the weather for working in the garage anyway Toto, pretty grey and miserable for the last few days.

Sunday's forecast looks better though.

Fingers crossed Ed. I'll be in the shed later but the heater could be going on as there is a bit of a chill in the air. The start of something I suspect.

Cheers

Slow progress.

All I've got to do is cut the last piece of track for platform 2, connect up the GEM wire in tube to an appropriate switch, wire the whole lot up, build a new replacement platform surface for platform 2, and re-do all the ballasting.

I'll then be back where I was two weeks ago, assuming it all works and there are no more problems :thud

Are you modifying the point for frog polarity Ed? That should improve the running for all locos shouldn't it.
What a tale of woe… so glad you are getting on top of it.
Test the point before ballasting eh?… but of course you will.
cheers

Oh yes, Marty.

After all the trouble I've had with insulfrogs any future point will be modified electrofrog with frog switching.

That said, I'm sure insulfrogs work fine, just not in my garage environment.

Onwards and sideways Matt.

I've still got to get under the baseboard to connect the new track pieces to the Bus.

Not easy with a bad back, although one of my sons has said he might pop round towards the end of the week. He doesn't know it yet, but he could be sitting on the garage floor for a few minutes :mutley

I've also got to re-print the Scalescenes platform surfaces and, guess what, the black ink cartridge has just run out  :thud

Hi Ed,

The main thing is you are getting there. I can sympathise with you completely having done the one step forwards three step backwards shuffle on many an occasion.

You'll overcome it.

Cheers

G`day Ed,
Good on you for persevering.:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs
If I was starting again I would go all electrofrog.  I have a mixture as you know, however all the electrofrogs work perfectly with all the locos…..no stalling…..no hesitation, whereas the insulfrogs in the main work quite well but, my smaller 0-4-0`s can stall or hesitate when crawling across same. I need to look seriously at the power pick up for those locos which may?????..help…who knows????. The best solution would be to replace each insulfrog with an electrofrog if the finances allow.
Carry on the good work Ed…..things will improve through your determination to put things right.

Thanks for the encouragement chaps.

I managed to get that last piece of track stuck down yesterday but it's a turned bit chilly in the garage now, so progress may well be even slower.

Get your big jumper on and just do short stints in the garage, us garage and shed dwellers have to adapt to the weather. :thumbs

G`day Ed,
I have heating too, even for our mild winters compared to yours, HOWEVER….when it`s bloomin` cold and miserable I think I would rather stay in the house, even though I could be comfortable in the shed………..Can`t figure that one out?????? Oh well????:roll::roll:

I have a 700 watt tube heater and a oil filled radiator in my shed, but I am too tight to put them on, maybe use the tube heater when it gets to high minus figures just to keep the damp out.

Cheers
