Yes, glued with 50/50 PVA/water, I dunk one side of the foliage in the mix, drain off the excess, place it firmly but carefully into position and then reclaim my finger tips.
Then… Don't touch it until completely dry. I've had to be quite firm with myself on occasions!
Once dry, I gently tease out the foliage with a pair of tweezers until twice the original size.
Seems to do the trick?

I'm concentrating on the area near the layout room door at the moment in an effort to show in a small way what the remainder of the layout might look like.
Tracy is very aware of the pleasure this hobby gives me and indeed encourages me to progress, so, to ease her mind, for she is a tidy soul and the layout room is NOT, that near the door and visible to those (Tracy) passing by is being progressed!
Thank you for you comments, they are valued.
Cheers

If you hadn't mentioned the hills were scaled up by 1.5 I wouldn't have known. Certainly reminds me of the sort of deep valleys with streams/rivers at the bottom I visited on holidays to Wales many years ago.
The back scene blends in very well, sort of misty atmosphere that is always present in these places due to all the water thrown up from the river below.
Looks like a bit of Wales in Oz :thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

Shaun, you are too kind.
If I were to start this project again with the first hand knowledge of the area that I now have there would have been a bit more attention paid to the orientation of the bridge, river and mill. However, seeing that the track plan was drafted up 7 or 8 years ago when things were still pretty hazy I'm happy to convey the impression and if you (and Ed) think it passes so much the better.

BLOOD….
Wanting to drive trains past the recently updated scenery, through the tunnel and off to Pencader, Carmarthen and points east, the cassette system was next.
Watching and learning from others on the forum had given plenty of ideas but courage was distinctly lacking, until now. A trip tp the local electronics shop found some suitably small, yet robust, electrical plugs, green in colour that would do the job….joined together they provide a continuous and flat surface that would assist alignment once glued to the aluminium channel earmarked as the base for the cassettes.
Needless to say, the game was afoot…..
Actually, it's Australia, summer, hot and shoes are not being worn in the layout room….
….and the slippery little sucker of a cassette plunged downwards, pointy corner first, as they do, right onto my little toe!
Thought for a moment that said little toe and the rest of me had parted company…. There was enough blood to indicate that this was the case…. But luckily not so.
Pressure, elevate, disinfect, bandage and rest. Good as gold.
But boy did it smart.
Not to be beaten the cassette system now works, a significant step forward for the Newcastle Emlyn Branch. An old shelf has been pressed into service as a cassette table and the first trains run, turned, and returned to layout.
Hallelujah.
The facia has been extended and given a new coat of paint. From the door of the layout room it now looks like this…. And the door is no longer required to be closed when visitors are due.
Now for the cassette storage racks.
All the best

Another question, the 'bucket' ?? Is that there for the times when you are too busy to leave the train room…? ;-);-)
Cheers, Gary.
ps. how have you been coping with the WA heat of late ?

Sorry to hear about the toe Marty… Ouch ! I have to say that the corner looks a treat inside the doorway. Is that the mill popping up behind the bridge from your previous updates ?
Another question, the 'bucket' ?? Is that there for the times when you are too busy to leave the train room…? ;-);-)

G'day Gary,
Yes, that's the Mill Owners house just on the other side of the bridge near the backscene. Gives quite a different perspective to the layout from this angle.
As for the bucket…. Well, once you get involved in shunting!!!
It cooled down right sharpish on Monday, went from 44 on Sat, 41 on Sun, to 29 on Monday. A couple of days of 38+ heat is bearable, it's when it goes on for a week that it gets a bit wearing. The house retains the heat and takes a couple of days to cool down afterwards.
Looks like they have the Parkerville bushfire beaten but 52 homes were lost and one life. Tough for all concerned.
Another hot weekend coming up, refuge in the air conditioned layout room is planned, pity the circulating air precludes further vegetating with scatter…. Because it…err…..scatters, much further than is required.
Stay safe over there, sounds like you are in for a long stretch?

Sorry to read of your poor toe Marty:sad:.
On the bright side a lovely extension to the railway which will add to the operating interest.:).
Now if you switch the door hinges around to open outwards from the room?:) That gives possible oppourtunities?.

Derek.

Tough luck on the toe Marty but I'm sure you received all the tea and sympathy you deserved from your other half.
Good to see a different view of Newcastle Emlyn and I must say that corner looks superb.
Hope the toe gets better soon mate.
Regards,
Trevor
