I have a few sixty footers on my layout, it's suprising the space they take up….the same with the real thing, I have had 15' cut of my laylandii tree's twice, and they're now back to where they were in the first place

 What have I started…. :mutley

Hi Phil,
That's the thing with a big tree, it's not just the height, they take up a lot of real estate too…. hey ho, to quote a friend of mine, I'm up for the challenge.
As for the real thing, the liquid amber in my front yard is constantly in need of trimming…. it shares air space with 3 x 66kv powerlines and the local utility keeps sending me letters!!

Marty,

Is there any way of climbing the tree and tapping into some free electricity, you would probably have to buy a reducing transformer though

I do the lopping, SES Cliff rescue techniques adapted to tree climbing… and I can assure you that I stay as far away from those sphincter tightening 66kv lines as possible.
I'd harness the cats up to the treadmill first!

Ya just leaves it to him.

As for the Chinese trees, yes they do larger ones, they classify them as being for larger gauges, but as I'm still planting towards the back of the layout and doing hedges I've not got into the "0" gauge ones - yet!

These are the largest (85' if used on N gauge) I could find on the "shop" I usually buy from

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G17055-4pcs-Train-Layout-Set-Model-Trees-Scale-G-O-17cm-/160550501850?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item25618e3dda

My next lot will probably be these, at 45'

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/R9035-40pcs-Scale-Train-Layout-Set-Model-Trees-N-HO-9cm-/310297106797?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item483f26196d

When compared to the cost you estimated for yours I just wonder how they do it, probably women and kids in sweat shops, piece work, penny per centimetre of tree. Some of their other types of tree, like palms don't suit UK layouts except maybe some Devon and Cornwall locations, and  the  "pine trees" however do not appeal at all except maybe for forests in sub ardtic locations

Cheers MIKE

Despite contemplating felling the liquid amber on occasion, usually every time the letter appears in the letterbox, it's too beautiful and useful a tree to bring down. The shade in summer is well appreciated and the Autumn colours spectacular.

Nice lads though I'm sure they are DD

Thanks all for the chuckles, it's good to see that the forum is still in possession of it's live wires

Peter, thanks for the offer, if you are happy to have a little tidy up please do and then I'll get on with the journey.

cheers
Marty

The whole world would be pleased with that Marty. :thumbs:thumbs

The juxtaposition of the building and roof lines makes the whole mill installation look superb.

Can't wait to see it in place and "landscaped". :cheers

Amazing Marty.

Looking back at your 773rd post where the craft knife was 'deployed', how on earth did you get this much further in two weeks?

I reckon your secretly a Jedi Knight, or you've got a magic workforce of 2mm people that come out after midnight!

What can I say that hasn't already been said Marty. An absolutely stunning model which is made even more so by the fact it is N Scale.

I bow to your superior skill.

I take my hat off to you Marty, a splendid bit of modelling, the fact that it's in N gauge makes it even more so. I'd have problems reaching that standard in OO. No chance of me doing it in N.

They finally got around to finishing the Newcastle Emlyn page.

The Australian Electorate have discerned something mathematicians Pythagoras and Euclid missed - that there is something lower than the lowest common denominator - and elected it Prime Minister.
