Hello Marty,
That is absolutely wonderful scenery and back-drop painting - however(there's always one, or more, mate) the tree shadows on the painted back-drop are a distraction. Is it possible, Marty, to under-light/ back-light/ side-light or downward-light behind the trees. Or re-direct the light-source away from the trees, thereby reducing the tree shadows. I hope you follow the meaning of my comments. Moving the trees forward and therefore downward would place the shadows on the ground-scenery rather than the painted sky. Removal of "tree-shadow" will change the scenery and back-drop from excellent to superb,
Kind Regards,
Michael Thornberry.

I've just caught up with this thread – WOW exclam:exclam:

Marty's backscene is hereby awarded the "Eagle of Snowdon" stamp (very rare) and a week's supply of Brain's Best Bitter. (available from my house and to be supped in my "artists" train room.

It's really interesting - I usually look at the railway from the other angle (ie standing in the doorway looking in) and am rarely brave enough to venture into the room, but looking at the clouds from the other angle in Martin's photos makes them look totally different - and even more lifelike.

I note with interest Martin hasn't shared any of the messy parts of the project, including the exploding paint can, the drops of paint all over the train room floor and out into the hallway and the paint on face, hands, and legs! I would advise you to be on VERY GOOD terms with your wife before starting anything similar :-)

Perhaps someone could award a mop and bucket stamp????

:mutley Oooh, yeah, forgot about the exploding paint tin, still getting paint off my legs :thumbs

Drop sheets boys and girls, drop sheets.

and an old long sleeve shirt and trousers. Except it was too hot to wear them :hmm

and a damp cloth to wipe up the spills… and a vaccum cleaner on stand-by… and (to quote a famous monty python sketch) maybe a hose!

I had fun though :doublethumb

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your comments, constructive and positive ones are always welcome.

I quite agree that tree shadows on a backscene can disrupt the continuity of the transition from the 3D scenery to the 2D backscene.

Early days yet, I have a plan that I'm confident will deal effectively with the problem which I'll demonstrate when I get there sometime this year…. I hope.

regards

Thanks JohnB.

The book turned up a day or two before Christmas.
You really are very kind to forward it on to me and I do appreciate it.
There are photo's in it that I haven't seen before and the history further expands on the story of my Newcastle Emlyn layout.

However, the photo of the Class 37 shunting the goods shed doesn't help in the slightest  Not to my hip pocket anyway… something else to go on the wish list. :thumbs

cheers

Marty, having been so tardy in forum reading and involvement over the past six weeks I am catching up with your thread and am blown away by the superb landscaping and sky. :thumbs:thumbs

Thanks Tim,

I really do look forward to the Christmas/New Year Holiday as it is the time I set aside for some dedicated R&R, which includes, of course, as many hours in the layout room as I can manage.

When I compare this photo from August 2007:

with some this one from just before Christmas:

the proof is there that I am making steady progress towards realising the dream.

Writing of progress, it is amazing how long it can take to make the smallest of things, the bridge over the River Teifi on the new Pencader section got another hour or so spent on it last night.

Cutting out the corner stones from an A4 sheet of Scalescenes stone in N scale is… um… repeatative. Worth the effort though to my mind.
Rumbling across the bridge is Class 52 D1035 Western Yeoman with 3 Collett coaches, an unlikely combination maybe but the coaches are a christmas present from Tracy via ChrisT and it's my railway. Might have to put some of the new Bachmann MK 1 coaches on the wish list too:thumbs

I rather like your "unlikely combination" Marty …..:thumbs

It does you good to look back over time just to rmind yourself how much has been accomplished.  It's all too easy to get bogged down by how much is still to do ……...  Having said that, I wonder how many people get the enjoyment from the building rather than the running.

The bridge is looking great …………..but then I remember your diorama :cheers

Thanks John.

The up side of the bridge is now complete, girder painted and all weathered. Now to do the down side.

Running home today so I didn't bring the camera into work, photos on Monday, hopefully of the completed bridge.

cheers

The more you work on the layout the more I have to remind myself it's N Gauge, such quality in the modelling Marty, as high as I have ever seen :thumbs

Forget the fitness Marty and post the images, your audience are waiting
