Well deserved picture of the week Marty, especially considering it's in such a small scale :thumbs :thumbs :thumbs

PS Clicking on the pictures takes me to photobucket and not the topic thread, whoops.

A well deserved header Marty and it brings proper attention to one of the best layouts on here.

Been a bit tied up with BT, just seen the Pic of the Week - brilliant!
Really wish I could produce something like that…

Do I have a plan? Na, if I did I'd spend most of my time trying to remember where I put it.

I'll do my best to post up a little more regularly.
The client has Rev A and will mull it over for a couple of weeks so there is a little less stress in my world at the moment.
As always your comments and support is very welcome and encourages me to continue on.
Spurno - Very glad to see one of my favourite layout photos as the header picture. Thank you.
A second video is in the making although now I know how to post it up I'll spend a bit more time on the production and can't give you a time frame. Especially as two weeks of holidays overseas and The Client's Rev 0 will be occurring over the next couple of months.
Now that the mojo is back though thoughts are turning to "what's next"?
One item is today's new arrival:
I'm looking forward to the challenge and will tell the story as I go along so you can all learn from my mistakes!!! This will be the first that I've installed.
The other is a spot of landscaping between the Henllan and Newcastle Emlyn station boards… I'm sick of just seeing the framework and now that the Llandyfiog Junction wiring is done there is no need to keep it open.
Here are some before shots of the area in question. From the north with the Newcastle Emlyn station board where the turntable is going on the right, Llandyfriog Junction in the centre foreground and Henllan station on the left. There will be a further representation of the Afon Teifi winding down the valley with a bridge in the background, the buttresses are already in place supporting the trackbed and have been for 6 years or so. Honest guv!
and a before shot from the east. From front to back, Henllan station board and the milk factory sidings, dropping down into the Afon Teifi valley and then rising ground up the curved backboard with tunnels for the track. It's all there in my mind's eye.
Still trying to decide the best way of building up the landforms. Polystyrene is banned in the house now. I'm keen not to spend much money so purchasing closed cell insulating foam boards is out too. Possibly mdf formers with a wire or shade cloth overlay and then the normal gloop mix.
Happy to have suggestions.
oh… and Keith… google tells me the appropriate reply is… iawn diolch

Mmmm, if I put an mdf deck down over the open frame and then box and line the tunnels expanding foam should work. I do have a can sitting ready to go…. I hope, it's getting pretty old.

Cywir, da iawn! – that Google comes in handy, if we carry on like this you’ll soon be able to eavesdrop on all the gossip in the waiting room at Newcastle Emlyn.
Glad to hear the mojo is back – mine is now linked to how Fflo is doing, this week she’s had a couple of off days, so that, and the ongoing battle with BT over texts on fibre phones (all day Saturday), has meant time on the forum has been severely limited, so apologies for the delay in replying.
Can’t think it is of any use – I’m talking to the master here – but for the small amount of greenery on Woodside, this is how I created my ‘hills’…. Early on I realised that the hills would have to be removable, as the far corner of the layout would be impossible to reach (lack of planning…. ), so this is what I came up with… I put two thin laths on the two boards bounding the area, and then cut struts from old polystyrene packaging (you could use more thin laths/balsa) to fit between the laths. Then screwed up old newspapers to fill the gaps between the struts until I had roughly the shape I wanted, I also used some tree bark to create a rock face, and then covered the whole thing, not the tree bark, with Plaster of Paris bandage. Once that had gone off, a second lot of bandage. One section had to fit flat onto another board, so I just put cling film on the board to stop the bandage sticking – of course if you are making the thing fixed you can take the bandage down to the boards on all sides. Mine being removable, at least that part worked, all the boundary fencing will go (eventually) on the fixed boards, and the join between two sections will be covered by a hedge (again eventually). For the moment all I’ve done is added my standard green undercoat… which is marginally better than white plaster. The photos on the Woodside thread show how it looks now… I haven’t managed to try this static grass yet, yes, it’s on one of my to-do lists, but once there’s something on these hills it shouldn’t look too bad. One advantage of having them removable – when it does come to trying the static grass, I can take them the off the layout, thereby avoiding putting static grass on everything close by, including two sections of main line – now it’ll just be all over the floor!

Almost all of my photos in this thread are 3rd party hosted from Photobucket.
I am considering my options and at this point in time can only say that nothing is forever.

I suspect I'm going to have to replace all the historical photos that way but we shall see.
Things are moving along slowly on the layout as I move towards creating the hill in the far corner between Henllan and Newcastle Emlyn stations.
First up was to create tunnel walls and tunnel mouths… the double track tunnel has been made from a 16mm thick bit of mdf with scalescenes Ashlar stone print glued on with Bostik.
The union mills Duke Dog with it's over width coupling rods is being used with my longest coaches to test the clearance on the south bank down to Llandyfriog Junction. The line in the foreground rises up to Newcastle Emlyn.
Sorry about the iPhone photo but it is convenient and I can get right up close.
cheers
Marty

……….. and how on earth did you get such a perfect curved cut in a 16mm bit of mdf
