Who'd a thought building a halt would be such a marathon….?!
Painting is ongoing… still working on the deck and the railings need painting…
A Pannier with a B-set pauses at the halt on the way up to Pencader.

Just as I start to think I am rising above beginner level in N gauge I find your truly incredible work. What I most admire is the ability to work with tweezers whic in my hands are a weapon of mass destruction. It's not the seeing that is hard, it's releasing the component without dislodging it again. Fantastic work.
Hahaha… you should hear me curse when a tiny 10mm x .45mm diameter brass rod "pings" out of the tweezers, bounces off the bench, off my lap and then twice on the floor…. and, because it is THE bit that has been slaved over to get the right length, it's onto the floor with the magnifiers on and my nose 2 inches from the floor boards!
It's no wonder the missus gives me strange looks.
Quick set superglue has been my friend on the Halt build… tack one end in place and then firm up the other end with MEK or equivalent weld glue.
Thanks for the kind comments Chris, it helps with the motivation for the microscopic!

G'day Gary,Nice piece of work there Marty. I'm just glad it's you and not me ! ;-) I know how fiddly drilling the posts and feeding wire is, but I've only done it in OO, and you're doing it in N.
It is a testament to your patience. :thumbs
Cheers, Gary.
I had a bit of thin wire on hand for the lower railings/wire and decided to try the brass rod instead. I'm glad I did, trying to get the wire taught in N scale would have been a nightmare.
In 00 I can imagine that while workable the wire would still have been a fiddly job.

I've realised that I don't need the trap points between the double slip and the points on the main line because the double slip does the same job. Wayward stock just end up in the head shunt. Well away from the passenger lines.
Just as well, the PECO trap points are code 80 not finescale 55, which means that I don't have to fettle them to match heights.

I just looked at the picture of the halt in-situ. What an amazing scene, you could place yourself standing on the halt. The bridge and surrounding scenery are truly to be marvelled at. Beautiful modelling at its very best.
More of the same please.

Looks very interesting Marty; is that a No.2Â radius curve on the right?
Ken
Hi Ken,
About 400mm radius with flexitrack and some transition into and out of the curve.
Design criteria was minimum 400mm radius curves and I've managed to keep to that standard in all but a couple of spots.

I'm a little intrigued with this circled below. Is it a section of the layout ?
To me, it looks like a viaduct over a stream… :hmm
Cheers, Gary.

That is the Pentrecourt Halt diorama that was built in 2008 as part of a forum challenge to build a small diorama.
It also proved very useful as a skills test and proof of concept.
Any new or returning modeler is strongly encouraged to start with something similar.
The story is told here:

Mike,Do you have a pic of all the layout, or a track plan so we can figure what goes where. Maybe there is one way back in the preceeding 55 pages, if so, a link will suffice. Memory at 80 is not as reliable as in bygone days.
This is the original plan from 2006/2007.
I'm currently drafting up the update and the reasoning for the changes.
What is marked as Riverbank Siding is what is under redevelopment to Llandyfriog Junction.
Newcastle Emlyn station is on a higher level and is separated from Llandyfriog Junction by a steep bank/retaining walls. The orientation of the station is going to be changed to allow for an extension to Cardigan Bay…. more on that in the not to distant future I hope.

Thank you Stuart,There is an orange micro led in disposable e cigs over here that would look good as a burning fire not sure you get them down there or not they are in the ones that look like tailor made e cigarettes hope this helps
Not sure if I want to tear apart / let alone purchase an E-cigarette for the LED  Although I do agree the orange would look pretty good as a fire… mmmm… maybe something to think about for a future firebox glow.
Looking for a yellowy/white to simulate lantern light at the moment. Should be able to get the micro LEDs from one of the on line electronic suppliers.
I know that a couple of you guys have sourced them from on line… If anybody has a link easily to hand I'd appreciate it.

That`s one impressive plan….I like that very much….and you`re changing it???
Well I look forward to the update.
Something that`s just come to mind re lighting. If you want to achieve a really tiny light, especially for N gauge….say a tail light on a wagon for example…..try fibre optic strands. A single strand can be very thin indeed. You can place an LED concealed inside the wagon….run a strand of fibre optic from the LED to the tail light. The light from the LED will travel through the fibre optic and show only at the end of it in the tail light.
There you go mate….just thought I`d throw that one in while I thought of it….it`ll probably disappear out of mind in a couple of minutes
