Hi Gormo,

Yes, the name had an instant ring about it. A no brainer for me. Thank you Ed.

The build has galloped on. I will change and remodel some of the framework as I can see a couple of minor issues that will arise when completing the land form and forming the concrete bridge bearings but no great shakes. It's all about plopping bits in at the moment to get the general feel and then I'll revisit the bits that are a bit rough and ready and start dressing it up a bit.

I must admit, I'm really enjoying this so far. The big test will be the quality ( or lack of ) of my buildings but I'll keep going with it until they are presentable. There are so many great modellers on the forum that the bar has been set way to high for me.:mutley I'm a lumps of wood man unfortunately and don't have the experience with finer detail. Even just getting a clean finish with a basic kit never mind individualising them.

However, all part of the challenge.

Glad you like it so far.

Cheers

We all start somewhere, the important thing is to start.
So the first few attempts may end in the skip, but hey, they might not.
There's more fun in the building, so if you get it wrong or not quite right, then more fun in doing it again.

Enjoy

Cobblers……….. One of my high street shops …… A cobblers.:mutley I'm also searching my kit stock for cobbles. Quite fancy some of them too.

These bridges come with a latent defect. They don't allow any depth on the platform for adding a surface of any kind. Even a paper surface would be to high as the slots in the side railings start from the ground level. I wanted to put paving slabs on the single track version as it's pedestrianised but the Metcalfe versions would be far too deep. Never mind. There will be an alternative. Not ready for it yet anyway but as usual forty steps ahead of myself.

Very little in the way of techy stuff on this layout Paul. I'll need to lay you off for a bit.:mutley the only techy bits are the programming thingy doofer and maybe some kind of control for lights etc but I'm not that far ahead of the game yet. Stay awake though for it won't be that long.:mutley

Cheers for now

Pleasure, but it was your pictures of the first bridge that made me think of it Toto.

Once you start the kits, make sure you've plenty of spare blades for whatever craft knife you're using.

Nothing worse than getting to the last few bits to cut and the card begins to tear as the blade gets blunt, and then you find out you've run out of new blades.

Guess how I know

Lay some Tarmac over the top of the bridge ; http://scalescenes.com/products/TX20-Tarmac

In a matter of fact, do all your roads with this ! :thumbs

Hi Ed,

Still good thinking. Simple and straight forward and self explanatory. :thumbs

I'll stock up on scalpel blades. It will probably be on return from the holidays before I actually attack any kit. I'm working from home this week but have a task I must complete by Friday so between that and a couple of things I have to do on the domestic front, I'll not get that much more done.

I have some track feeds, maybe about half a dozen Max and I may tackle the upper level baseboard between the two bridges. That will also form the basis of my workshops which are housed below the upper road level.

Quite exciting really as it's a total change from the norm. Loads to do, it's just getting it in the right order.:mutley

Gary,

That looks like a good surface for the Tarmac. Could be a goer. I'm on limited time during today ( this thing called work, always gets in the way :mutley but glad I have it )  but I'll take a closer look later. I'll also have a look at your suggestion with regards to the general layout plan.

Cheers for now

Take a look through the whole Scratchbuilders yard. You may find something else you like, for example TX55 Flint…

Hi Gary,

There are a few finishes there that look quite good. The oily concrete an the normal stuff as well.
I have a file that I previously purchased which gives concrete beams and piers etc which could come in handy for the bridge bearers.

The corrugated sheeting is another good to have as well. Can't beat a bit of dereliction.:mutley

I have some plastic corrugated sheet as well. Heat it up a bit, bend and contort it then paint it. I think a bowl of hot water will soften it enough to make it pliable. Busy times ahead.

Cheers

Just a thought Tom, Highbridge was a Somerset and Dorset terminus and shed/works, there was also a GWR station; S&D and GWR lines crossed on the level!

Hi Mike,

I think I'd need another 6 feet to get all that in.:mutley space is very limited. By my standards anyway. Not just that …….. It would propell me into another spending spree.:It's a no no

I'll look it up on the net though …….. You never know.:hmm

Nothing done today. I've only just wound the  works laptop down. A long busy day ……… But worth it as I have hit my target that I had set for close of play tomorrow ……….. Today.;-) happy bunny or what.

I'm going to hit the shed and rake out my card kits to see what I have.

Cheers for now

Checked the stock levels. I have three Metcalfe high street kits with various building types. A cinema, shops, pub and bank.

So I think they'll do the job. I also have various LED's etc for internal lighting. No shortage of stuff to use. I ordered various brick papers etc from scale scenes so I'll need to jump onto my e-mails and download them.

So ….. There we are for the moment. With a bit of luck I may get a bit done tomorrow at some point. Loads of things to try and do before the hols on Saturday.

Cheers for now

NCE Power Cab on its way :mutley that'll take care of both Breadalbane and Highbridge Sidings. I was Going to get it at a Warley but it probably wouldn't be any cheaper ( £130.00 ) and it will save Matt having to carry it around for me :mutley always thinking about your welfare Matt. Not just that but Highbridge will go live very soon. My programme track doofer whatsit switch thingie is on route from Hattons as well so Highbridge will have its own permanent programming track at the front of the control fascia.

In fact, that's a wee job for tomorrow …… Finish the feed droppers, run a BUS cable along its length and also run an accessories BUS for all the lighting and wee odds and ends.

There we go ……… Sorted.

Cheers

Toto.

Aw well seems my talents arn't needed ……;-)
Now you have jmri, nce usb interface  and shortly the powercab, couple them with your rolling road and you have the perfect programming station.
Enjoy your building's.
I'm sure, getting the powercab early won't make Matt's lot any easier at Warley, may be worth getting saddle bags and a shopping trolley.

I tried to get you on the dog and bone ……… Have you been dodging the bills again.:mutley

Don't know what's on the Warley list now . I'm sure I'll think of something or else it'll just be more beers and burgers.:mutley

If you are sharing the Powercab between two layouts, you will need to purchase another PCP (Powercab Panel). One for each layout.
