Off at a tangent once more.
As gary says primer first, I also said it in post number 523 :lol:A light coat of grey primer also lets you see where the sleeper grime is going better than onto the dark plastic sleepers, and the paint takes to the primer far better than bare plastic, you may also find you don't need the sleeper grime as thick as the grey primer showing through gives the old grey wood weathered effect.
Now read the previous posts correctly before continuing….

I'll give it a primer coat on Friday night when I get it ( assuming that it will have arrived) that'll be dry by Saturday morning and let me get on with the main event.
I'll leave the ballasting well alone until it's completely dry.
I have black ballast that I bought from the Dundee show but it is medium grade. Matt, I may take you up on some of your coal dust in Order to sprinkle on top in places to give that well tamped in look between the sleepers.
Whatcha think.

The acrylics will be dry in minutes, just make sure your well ventilated, and not smoking at the time, otherwise it may turn out smokier than you expected.
On a test picec of track, see what effect adding a little brown &/or white paint to the pva makes to the colour of your black ballast, it may just tone down the black enough to allow the coal to stand out a bit better.
Then you can blend it the way you want with the air brush.

From memoryI bought a sand colour, Matt black, dark brown and a reddish brown. So, there are plenty of opportunities there Ithink.
The track rust will be done with a small brush. I may also pick out some of the sleeper chairs with it as well.

The spraying will just be done " in shed " unless it's dry enough to take the layout outside. It's just short bursts really so with the shed doors open it'll be fine.
The weather generally up here ain't great either but I don't think we can expect much better for November.
I'll post up some pictures as things happen. Friday is not that far away.

I will do. My lungs are goosed anyway so a bit of paint won't finish me overnight.
Should be on for a reasonably productive weekend I think. Steady away as they say.
I think it's the following weekend we are up mob handed to harass yourself and get out homework dished out so I'll make the most of this weekend.
In saying that, better confirm that with Matt.

There is always this Sunday, if it suits better, as I'm driving Saturday night so will be capable on Sunday.
By the way a decent face mask will also, if you don't want to inhale.
