Off at a tangent once more.

Glad you enjoyed your day. Thanks again for the shinnies. Heavy duty or wot. :mutley

I'm delighted with the results. The track is down nice and flat. I won't have any grief with that I don't think. Looking forward to tomorrow and getting cracking again.

I'll hold off from any ballasting for the moment until the switch 8 has arrived and the whole thing is tested thoroughly. I can do the wiring connections and get my walling back on the go. Alter the bridge abutment  etc. that'll keep me going and get me back to more if less where I was ……….. But a hugely improved version.:thumbs

Cheers

Hi Matt,

I'll maybe just do that. Solder the droppers to the BUS tomorrow and then turn my attention back to Highbridge again next weekend. Mind and check to see which day ( if any ) you are free or Paul's next weekend. I'm ok for either or can run up myself if you can't make it. SWMBO is busy both days.:thumbs

Better clean up then, order the Lorne and get plenty of coffee - the pressures mounting already

As you've glued onto ply, it should dry a bit quicker, if the glue is clear, then you'll be ok. Of course if the weather cold and damp then it may take longer - damn its it Scotland, better give it a couple of weeks

Nice amount of work, makes me nervous for next week, I hope your not expecting to relay Viccies track, I've just got the magnets working.

…and I was looking forward to seeing the retaining walls in place, grass and ballast down, bushes and weeds scattered around and the start of scratchbuilding the loading docks and buildings…

Nobody wants that glue to be dry more than me. :mutley I'll have a look at it later this morning.  The weather is looking favourable for working outside so you never know what may get done.

Now, what are you guys doing ……….. Practicing what you preach I hope.

You've been a bit quite these days Gary ………. What's happening.;-)

To tell you the truth, not a lot on the modelling front. Due to a few weekends of motorsport, a couple of birthday parties, taking the family out on other weekends, planning a O gauge layout on Anyrail, it doesn't leave much time for playing… But I'm about to put sound into my 08, add a few industrial touches to Indudtry lane and hopefully take my Adams 02 to the AMRA Clubroom layout to run her in, as I don't have a roundy-roundy nor a rolling road. Hopefully an update soon.

Cheers, Gary.

I didn't think you'd be lying idle somehow.;-) just hadn't heard much. Loads to look forward to. I'll be interested to see how you do the 08. Was it a Hornby or Bachmann model you have. I can't remember.

The industrial touches will be interesting too. I like watching the details go in.

I'll be keeping an eye open for this lot coming up. Not to mention the O gauge plans. :thumbs

Ah the dreaded weather Toto,
Fortunately in Oz we have a fairly dry climate…..although I don`t think our farmers would agree with me??….however I know you must have to time it well in Scotland to get glue to dry. I did some varnishing a while back during a wet spell and it took forever to dry.
So I hope the weather is kind to you and allows you to get stuck into your project…..not literally of course :roll::roll::roll:

Hi Gormo,

I checked it out earlier this morning and most parts are looking pretty dry.clear anyway. Apart from a coup,e of areas where I had been a little more generous with the PVA.

I'll be going out in to the shed shortly to decide what to do. There is absolutely nothing stopping me from progressing the walling and the abutments now as it's well clear of any track. I'd like to get that started again but I might get ticked off by Matt. :hmm

My switch 8 will be here for next weekend so I can be ready for that as well in terms of wiring. I will be building another wee control box at the opposite end from the existing one in order to house the switch 8.  I don't want to put it under the baseboard as it could end up taking a bit abuse there and at £45.00 a time …………

It's getting exciting though as I am not far away from trying my hand at ballasting and scenics and stuff so things will start to look the part soon.

Watch this space, I think you'll like what's coming up.

Hi Toto

Use a piece of the scrap base and track you just ripped up, stick it down, and use as a practice piece for ballasting.

Before I start Matt ……….a big boy done it and ran away. …….. Honest.

It all started with the glue……… it was dry ….. honest …… so I just thought lets just start these walls again.

so here we are. first one at the warehouse end. you can just see the gap in the wall where there will be a concrete platform and a signal box on the left hand side.

and then over to the right where the warehousing will go.

a general shot

and another

clear the trash away Note the back board has been put up to the right. its a temporary move to give me a line to work off when I start my buildings and stuff.

and from a slightly different angle.

a square on view from the front

along to where the bridge will be.

you can see the area for the signal box bottom left.

back along the traverser end and the small siding off to the right for the resident shunter.

Bringing the bridge back into play for a minute. Still need to amend the abutment slightly to allow for the Metcalfe brick card and the concrete bearing for the bridge to sit on.

and another from a slightly different angle. Again, you can see the shunter siding clearly now.

So, back to where I was before wrecking it. Next weekend my switch 8 will be here so I'll build the wee ply box on the front of the layout at the opposite end from the Throttle plug in panel. This will protect the switch 8 from taking any knocks etc. Then I'll solder the track feeds up and fit the cobalts maybe. ( still to decide on that yet ).

From a build point of view, I will be amending the bridge abutment and now that I have the back panel on from which to take measurements etc, I will start working out the loading bay and warehousing etc.

The brick card could start going on the walls and I need to look at the position of the second bridge, ( the double one ) I'm trying to make up my mind if its taking up to much room due to the abutment size necessary to hold it up ). to be decided. I will play around with building ideas and maybe make up some footprint sizes to play around with.

I can almost see a bit of a way forward. all the more enjoyable bits still to come. I'll need all you scenic experts on hand. I've started picking up some detailing items as well. the ground level signals for instance and I'm looking at some small electrical connection boxes and the like.

The signal box ( I think ) is going to be my townstreet one which I bought ages ago. Its a plaster cast one with etched brass windows and some fantastic opportunities to detail out the inside. It should look good ……… if I don't make a pigs ear of it.:mutley

any comments etc…….. feel free.

cheers

Toto

Looking good, :pathead we may even see a shunter in motion

Looks well worth the effort

Being unsure where you are going with this, but I assume where 'C' is, is where the factory/warehouse will be going. But is there anything going in at 'A' and 'B' ? I do realise to the left of 'A' will be the signal box.

Oh, now is the time to paint the sleepers and rails, before any cardboard retaining walls go in.

Cheers, Gary.

Hi Gary,

A and B will just be built up embankment area's. There may be a brick wall area going over the end. The wall where the main platform track approaches may have a tunnel opening but ' bricked up ". The story goes that the track used to run through this in earlier days but was shut down and the tunnel bricked up……….. Structural issues you see.

The whole area along the back wall is undetermined as yet. A bit of suck it and see going on there as yet.

Once the glue has completely dried, probably next weekend, I though about going along the track bed and sleepers etc with some brown emulsion.

I may even get the air brush out and give the rails a light going over with rust or something. Suggestions welcome. After that, I'll look at the brick wall card. Protect it with grease proof paper when sloshing the glue about for the ballast.

Colour of ballast ……….. Not sure yet. Should be a bit mucky as it's unlikely as a Partially close line that much maintenance would have been done with it.

Ideas welcome.

Cheers

Toto.

If using an air gun, would there be any problem in just using thinned down household emulsion as a first base coat. I realise that it won't stick to the areas where the PVA has hit but it will catch the majority of the track edge sect.

The next coat would be an oil based or acrylic paint thinned down.

G`day Toto,
Are you talking " air brush " for the household emulsion?????If so…..don`t do anything yet…..I`m not sure if the paint would be suitable even thinned down. Don`t take a chance on stuffing the airbrush until someone gives the OK.
Anyone who has the knowledge please advise.!!
