Hi Gary,

I'll need to read the info that comes with it to see what the various parts are. You are right with the woodlands stuff. A real bargain there albeit limited choice.

The three layouts is me at my limits. It's all down to trying to allocate time between them now. Breadalbane is a wee bit off yet although it is happening. That suits me as it lets me crash on with the others for the moment.

Hi Gormo, I think Max started the Tonto bit off. :mutley :hmm is he alluding to me being a bit of a horse trader maybe.:mutley

I think thats a hint at me - as I have the baseboards still in proto kit form (i.e. full sheets of untouched plywood), and his traverser is in full couch mode ;-).

On the bright side, its allowed Toto to change his mind a few times and now going to have Highbridge and Breadalbane sharing the same traverser (when I get off the couch and build it). May be delayed a little due to our collective madness of offering Victoria Road for an exhibition.

Just had one.:mutley I'm just back from B & Q buying a new curtain rod thingy. The last one was a fancy affair with pelmets etc but it gave up the ghost after about 15 years and came crashing down scaring the brown stuff out of the mutts.  Big chunk of plaster board came with it.

So at some point between today and tomorrow guess what I'm doing. I picked up another plastic storage box with 3 decent size drawers. This will help when I do my tidy up in the shed later today. Start getting things in some kind of order where I can find them.

I have amassed a load of scenic stuff over the last while so I'll get all that together and the card kits and tools that go with it. Right now I am lucky if I can find anything.

And of course in amongst all that crap ……. I'll get me magnets done.

Onwards ………. After my coffee ….. Oh yeah and a trip to Asda for the shopping. What a PITA.

Cheers

Well,

I got my magnets in and they work. Again, I will need to weigh the wagons significantly as the magnets are very strong. here is a couple of pictures. I'll apologise up front for the blurry photos.

A quick photo of the little blighters out the pack.

The first one made up.

and the others.

The first two installed.

now they are all in.

I put Highbridge on a couple of work trestles to work off. Much better at this height.

So tomorrow, after I've done a bit plastering and put up a curtain rail I'll be back in the shed and looking to alter the bridge abutment and install the double bridge abutment. Then its facing up the low level walls with Metcalfe brick paper / card.

I may power up Highbridge and test the wagons out with a loco rather than by hand. All time dependent. So, a little progress this weekend with a bit more to come tomorrow. its a start.

cheers for now.

Your getting there, you'll need several wagons to play with for your extensive testing period :mutley

Hi Max,

Once I've tested it with a loco and I am sure i'm happy with it, I will be able to get some ground cover down and let it take shape a bit. But, yes, generally a good milestone hit. Good fun, its all different stuff I'm trying now after the long stint on the R & GLR.

Paul,

I'll look and see which wagons will be simplest to weigh down. They may not ultimately be the ones used on the layout but I just want to see that the weight will work in principle as the draw from the magnets is very strong indeed.

Anyway, another job sort of done I think.

cheers for now.

Hi Gary,

Once I sort the weight issue out I'll do a short video. Otherwise it'll be like watching an outtake from swan lake.

Cheers

Hi Toto

The NMRA guideline is 1oz + 0.5oz per inch of vehicle, so a 3" wagon would weigh 2.5oz (1 + (3 x .05) = 2.5)

Check also that you base board is level, as the wagons will roll, especially if the magnets giving them a tug.

Just had another thought, I've used code 100 rail, your on code 75, effectively my axels are further away from the magnets :brickwall

Adjustable magnets…glue a longer piece of ply underneath the maget block…a screw at each end…screwed in from underneath so the magnet block fits in its hole….you can now screw it fighter or slacken it off till you get optimum performance.   Seemples

Looks like the kitchen scales are coming out then.

A little bit of plastering to do first and a curtain rail to put up. Then I'll " weigh in " :mutley

I really should fit one of these Zen decoders with stay alive to one of the shunters that I intend using and try it out over these points at the same time.

One thing leads to another but I guess it would make sense rather than testing it with my ultra reliable class 24. That would be taking the easy way and won't highlight the potential issues.

Ok then, I suppose it's time to fry a chip as well.:mutley ( my soldering skills I refer to here ).
