Highbridge Sidings

Off at a tangent once more.

Hi Paul,

Just back from GlenDochart. These magnets look pretty convincing to me. I've ordered up a bulk pack of 25. They should be here by next weekend so. I'll test them out too. Certainly looked like they done the job.

I'll need to lift the track to get the others out but no big deal. It will be worth it if they work as good and reliably as the video.

Cheers

Toto.

I'm thinking of going into decoder mode now.:mutley

Hi,

Went out into the shed earlier tonight. I was looking at Highbridge and playing around with what the new scheme was going to be like. Sort of preparation for tomorrow.

I've decided to buy a cheap table saw out of Machine Mart tomorrow. I have a reasonable amount of 3mm ply etc to rip to size and it will also come in handy for the next phase of Rosebuddy when I am doing the second level baseboards and ripping up for retaining walls etc.

Nothing fancy, just a cheap ( but safe ) table saw. It should speed things up a bit as well. Some photos will be posted tomorrow as it will be getting pressed straight into action.

Took the large Kadee magnets out in anticipation of the rectangular doofer magnets that I have ordered for trialing. I feel a busy and productive shift coming on.

Cheers

G`day Toto,
I`ve just watched that video Paul posted about the magnets and the Kadees.
If that`s not the way to go I`ll be a monkeys uncle.
That`s a brilliant, simple, elegant solution and surely that has to be the way forward.

Now my friend……be careful with that table saw. Safe operation must be uppermost in your mind. Read and understand all the safety stuff and then please, please read it again.
These tools can be dangerous. I have one…..a Triton work center……many years ago I was using it and the blade caught hold of a piece of 4"x3" timber by about 12" long, that I was cutting, and it literally threw the timber at me. It hit me in the chest and knocked me to the floor.
It all happened so quick there was not time to avoid the bullet. I was just lucky it was not my face that was hit.
Every time I use the thing now, that day comes back to haunt me, but more importantly to warn me, to be out of the line of fire.
So please be careful!!!

:cheers  Gormo

Edit………maybe I am the monkeys uncle???……..just realized ( it takes me a while sometimes?).……it`s not selective uncoupling……it`s uncoupling in one sweep past the magnets, therefore if you had say 6 wagons, would it uncouple each one as it passed the magnets and basically rob you of choosing which one to select????………where are the bananas????:oops:

Last edit: by gormo

:hmm

Would it not still require the " dance " Gormo ? The key thing is that the Kadee won't work under tension, only compression. It may determine how I bring the wagons on initially. However, I think my idea is to bring them on loco first into the longer siding which means the wagons would all be under tension as they pass the magnet at first. Then, the loco backs up and releases one wagon at a time and the local shunter picks them off, reallocates them to one of the two storage sidings until they are all allocated and therefore releasing the incoming " delivery shunter " to leave the scene again. The local shunter would then take them from their sidings to the main platform / dock siding for unloading.
The sequence is then reversed again with the wagons being taken back to the storage sidings ( after unloading ) and await the main delivery shunter to come back and pick them up again.

Don't know if the above is clear enough. I babble some crap at times.:mutley

Sounds feasible Toto when you put it that way.

You would need to do the Kadee two step for each wagon being cut.

Can almost hear the fiddles and banjo's warming up.

Hi Gormo,

A sketch might help explain it clearer but I think it may be ok.

I'll see if I can't do a sketch later as it would be good to know if there is any perceived issues before taking it forward. I agree that it may not work in all cases depending on how your individual layout works. There again maybe not.

Still worth looking at though as I think it's the most effective system ( for Kadee's ) yet.

There's no evidence of the shuffle in the video, Tonto.  (The one with the magnets on the sides).

Anyhoo - if you need banjos/fiddles etc, let me know . . .

We have a pro photographer who follows the bands around.

https://picasaweb.google.com/104270286940582723366/2015092527MelroseMusicMuster

These are all low resolution.

We buy the ones we need/want in high resolution for CD covers, posters, etc.

We are in that lot somewhere.

Our latest CD "Hand Picked" is being mastered as we speak.  Hopefully it will be released in time for our trip to the Dorrigo Festival 23rd - 25th of this month.  I understand that this will be the first one available on iTunes.

Apparently there are YouTube recordings made by audience members.  They tend to be hard to watch, as live performances don't usually record well.  I tried a search on YouTube, but no luck.

We are called The Cherry Pickers (have been for ten years), but it seems that it wasn't an original idea.
