Highbridge Sidings

Off at a tangent once more.

Hi Paul,

Will do. I will place the barrier as I rebuild the walls etc. This time I have Metcalfes brick wall effect to glue to the ply as I go. The idea is that for all the wall sections on the embankment side, all interfaces will be protected from the plaster bandage when it's wet. Once dry, I can simply remove it.

There is quite a bit of wall to do, all along the main outside border, the bridge abutments and the small low level wall that will run trackside.
I also have a woodland scenics outfall to work in as well.

I decided to redo the whole embankment side again as it will be easier to work everything in. The chicken wire will go in last and the awkwardness of placing it should throw up some interesting surfaces which is ideal really rather than a surface that is too neat and perfect.

I will also be looking at installing another point for a kick back siding for a shunter to idle in. What do you think. I am talking not much longer than to hold an 08 at biggest and a set of doofer thingies. Ahhhhh ….. Buffer stops. That's what they are.:mutley

Cheers.

You may be better glueing the Brick paper to card, then the card to the ply, otherwise the paper pay wrinkle and tak on the ply grain.

Hi Paul,

This is the Rolls Royce of brick finish. Metcalfe …….. Already mounted on card:mutley both thick ( very appropriate for myself ) and thin card. Four sheets of each with a sheet of tiled roofing thrown in. I've got three packs ……. That should be enough ……….. To go round the whole layout twice.:mutley

No loitering here…….. We are looking for instant where possible as my home time could be limited soon. I spoke to my Director from the comfort of my Balcony and half blitzed on Thursday ( or was it Friday ) and he informs me that there are plans afoot for next week. Don't know what they are yet so today has to be quality modelling time. Not rushing at the expense of quality ( whatever that may be at my level ) but at least making progress. The previous attempt gave me some ideas, the rework will be part of the permanent work now that I know better where I am heading.

Hopefully there will be something to look at later.

Cheers

What a find, Gormo would be proud. Maybe even jealous. Went to the tip to get rid of my rubbish and what's staring me in the face ? Three large sheets of polystyrene approx 20mm thick, undamaged.

Made my day that has and perfect timing..

Great start to the day. I can see the tip being one of my favourite places.

Does the find of the polystyrene sheet mean you won't be using the chicken wire for landforms ??

Hi Gary,

No, I'll be using a mixture of both in various locations. The sheeting will be handy  between  the sidings to build up the ground level and possibly  around the culvert / outfall..

As I said at the start, this project will hopefully give me a little experience with all sorts of different materials and methods. At least the ones that I feel comfortable taking on.:mutley

Well,

Got a start made to the changes in Highbridge. The embankment side was stripped back out and then I started to make the required track changes. I had to extend the track bed level a bit to take the kick back siding. Fitted another set of points only to find the fence wire I had left was not long enough. So, I am about to trial a bit of code 75 rail instead. It may do the job. If it is in the slightest bit dodgy, I'll hang fire and get a bit more wire.

I stripped out the lower back scene board and replaced it with lighter weight stuff. That will eventually be covered with Metcalfes brick card.

Next jobs on the agenda are to construct the woodland scenics culvert and get that into position to enable me to give me a point from where to take the low level brick wall from. This is at the edge of the track. Again, Metcalfes brick card will be used.

Once these are in position I shall make a start on the bridge supporting walls. When they are more or less in place , this gives me everything from which to form the chicken wire around for the main land formation. I'll see how far I get with this today. Still a good few hours left so I'm hopeful of some decent progress. I'll post up some pictures later.

Cheers for now

Ok,

a couple of photo's of where I am so far, stripped back to the bare bones.

another shot of the general layout as it was.

installation of the shunter kick back

and the long shot

provision made for wire in tube point control ( but without the wire so far ).

not that much done but I will continue after my dinner for an hour or two. I was thinking of trying a bit code 75 rail for the wire in tube connection. Any opinions ?

I will build my wee culvert and play around with the positioning to determine its exact location. I have reinstalled the plywood former along the long outside edge again but not ready to do any more with that until I've worked out a few more details. I'll be cutting down some thin ply from which to form a low level wall at the bottom of the embankment on the trackside.

I'll update again later,

cheers

Ahhhhh

Now ……a game of brinksmanship ………… Or a game of bluff ……..who ends up with it ………and at what price

By the way ……. I think this is the first time I've ever actually made a bid for something. I'll need to look into how I keep track of it. At least payment is via paypal should I win it ……… That's easy enough.

Good luck gentlemen.

Cheers

Going a bit :off topic, but if you check out the shop they do quite a good selection of lights.

It's where I got my cheap 2 aspect signals.

Hi Ed,

Anything goes on my threads so don't worry about taking a wander :mutley I like to know when there is something worth looking at.

I currently have a plastic drawer full of lights:mutley various types of yard lights, wall lights etc and some plain minature bulb things that will work well as hidden internal building lights. ( I'll post them up later ).

Having the three layouts on the planning departments books has let me run riot. Highbridge will be the first opportunity to actually get any of them on show. The doggies doo da's being Joan …….. My arc welder:mutley

I remember a video that Max posted some time ago of a workshop where he recorded various sounds. Hammers clinking, footsteps of people walking ( to a toilet ) the toilet flushing. I thought ……..:hmm there are one or two that I would like to add to that. Mainly from the toilet. My type of humour.
Anyway, if you see a good set of disco lights for use in a pub or some strobes. Let me know. A man in a white suit and black shirt to stand at the door dragging on a fag would be good as well.:mutley ( maybe Gormo can help there ).:mutley

Anyway, it looks like another week at home. Whilst I await a few formalities being sorted for my next project. At least I will get into the shed at night for an hour or two.

We'll see what progress I manage tonight.

Cheers for now chaps

Ahhhhhh …….. That old chestnut ………. What are you after ………. Come on…pray tell.

I am not long off the phone to my Director who has kindly given me another ball aching exercise to " have a go at " until my main commission is finalised. Another spreadsheet exercise ( but not a filter in sight ) so I am actually " working from home " not on a jolly.

However, if you kind invitation ( coupled with copious amounts of coffee ) is extended as far as the weekend, that Gould be a different story.
I'll let you check on that one before I go saddling myself upon you. If my terms are acceptable, let me know if I need to come armed with anything.

I eagerly await your response.:mutley that'll learn you to ask stupid questions.
