GWR/LMS OO Gauge DCC RR&Co
Thanks for the kind words Trev, Trevor, Barney, Alan and TotoI wouldnt want to guarantee getting that intro right after a couple of glasses of wine:lol:
I must admit I do enjoy detailing! I do try and capture a snapshot effect as part of the overall time stamp I am trying to create. Having said that, I recognise that there is an argument that frozen cameos can appear to be somewhat unrealistic………..eg: how long can Ivor really stay on top of the wheel drop:lol::lol:
Toto……the faux concrete infill is actually Mat Board (Mount Board in the UK?) painted with assorted pastel rubbed in……you can find out more detail in Post #801
Knowing what I know now (the blessed hindsight!) I would sacrifice realism for operational integrity by using slightly thinner card to ensure the rail stands un-prototypically proud of the infill…….in real life they had check rails
I tried these cosmetically in the warehouse yard…..they look good but dont actually do anything…….RTR check rails thats what we need:lol:

Mount board ( photographic ? ) I have in abundance. Another potential future project then. I wouldn't worry about Ivor……….you can see that he has stamina.
I would still rather see the little people being there at the risk ofsomecalling it unrealistic. To me, it would look even more unrealistic if you had such an otherwise very detailed scene without the little people. It is purely representative of what you want people to envisage as part of the overall atmosphere.
Come on the little people ! On another note, is that the Ratio version of the loco gantry ? And also did the ladder cages come as part of it or is that a scratch built addition by yourself ?
Cheers

Its a delight to see a busy MPD scene portrayed.
Now when your concrete sets.
Some nice staining in strategic places would be a nice touch?

Derek.

Hi Toto….Glad you like the people……you are correct the wheel drop is a Ratio kit …..I built it 8 years ago but I am pretty sure the ladder hoops were part of the kit.

You mentioned in my layout thread that you had wrecked your ratio midland carriage bogies?
Here is a link to rails of sheffield who sell spares.

By the way John Brossard has just posted another link for replaceing ratio coach bogies in my thread.
Might well use them myself as the ratio ones are very delicate.

Derek.

I have already confessed to an over indulgence in detailing…….so by way of excusing what I am about to show…. let me explain…….
80% of the railway room is devoted naturally enough to the railway…….the other 20% is a somewhat underused office (I am retired)
Looking towards the outside door from the internal entrance
eThe opposite view from the door towards the entrance ……..duck under to the left.
Access to the 80% railway room is via the duck under. Given hindsight the duck under was a mistake as it presents a very solid barrier…….it keeps me fit bobbing back and forth but in reality only the dog keeps me company
The view corridor I have just shown represents what most visitors see of the layout……hence the importance of providing some close quarter viewing interest.
Here are a couple of overall shots………The LMS (Metcalfe Shed) on the right still has to be upgraded so that hopefully it will eventually be reasonably compatible with the main buildings
The shot below shows the vents added to break up the rear wall and another attempt to indicate the level of employment at a shed like this
The booking in office is now completed……..there are obviously more bike sheds off scene……..you would need 20+ years service to get your bike so close to clocking in!
Senior Clerk Adam Jones has just posted next weeks trip roster. Sam Warburton looks distinctly unimpressed with his turn on a 28xx
ROD
Not too much happening in the Workshop……how many staff are needed to change a light bulb?
All these outbuildings are made with Scalescene papers, bits and bobs of accessories (many of which you will recognise) and a new find the Ratio drain pipe kit………there are some Dapol/Airfix figures but the best ones are Montys which I think are really good
Most sheds had a static source of steam for boiler washouts etc……this should really be fully enclosed within a shed…..but then who would see it…….the legend is that this is just temporary WWII accommodation
Another go at suggesting life behind the scenes in the narrow passage way between the Workshop and the LMS Shed
And to finish a Black and White shot that hopefully captures the atmosphere I am trying to capture:cheers
If nothing else the visitors now have something to look at :cheers

They certainly capture the Atmosphere of the various scenes and tie it altogether as well.
Terrific stuff

Hmm under used office and retired.
Is that a hint of expansion plans with easier access built in. One has to think of the future, zimmer frames can be a devil with duck unders. Not saying you will ever need one of course.

Derek.

Got to agree John the detail is really very good, but I've got to ask, who does the dusting quest:

Joking apart its a reasonable question……with all the various modelling activity the cameos do attract, over time, a fair amount of dust……….the canal in particular……….I use a soft paint brush on the worst areas plus a quick puff that moves the debris from one area to another (hopefully less noticeable) area!

Dont think so Derek……I would finish up blocking the way in or the door to the garden……..there is an adjacent room with an open doorway …….both rooms were originally designed as a revenue earning basement suite (quite common in Canada)…..I hate to add the lost rental to the cost of locos! Whatever…..Doreen keeps muttering about a sauna so I think thats out as well…….I have to live with what I have got……which in fairness is quite large for one person…..and a computor. :lol:Nice one John.

I guess a cut down zimmer on wheels like a mechanics trolley might work?

I think I should start a separate thread on my Ratio Midland Carriages……..I have definitely spent a disproportionate amount of time the last few days trying to get them to operate ok……its either going to be good news or a waste bin shot!Looks like I missed alot in the past few days. Very impressive detail indeed.
Derek, I didn't know you could get Ratio bogies separately, thanks.

Brilliant scenes and detail. The black & white shot gives the scene a particular 'era' feel to it. Nice. :thumbs
If you ever want to come 'Down Under' and detail my layout, feel free ! ;-)
Cheers, Gary.
