GWR/LMS OO Gauge DCC RR&Co
Petermac wrote:Hi PeterAs Michael said John, there's nothing like jumping in at the deep end with a new turntable but delighted you're now feeling well enough to tackle it.
I haven't tackled the repairs to mine yet - not too much modelling time available currently….
Have Fleischmann stopped building them altogether or just superceded this with a newer model ?
I'm looking forward to the next epic video from Granby …….. :cheers
Thank you….I am feeling more or less normal now albeit 20 pounds lighter. Doreen is moving buttons on shorts and trousers again…..but this time in the right direction.
As I explained to Michael the installation wasnt that complicated I just had to drop the new bridge in and switch on!
I think Fleischmann have been through some rough times and may well be owned by Marklin now (or is it the other way round?) Regardless Fleischmann's H0 basic track tooling has worn out and they are now focussing all their attention on N gauge
The video will take a while, its astonishing the number of unfinished jobs I have accumulated

Thanks BillHello you merry tent inhabitant* John,
I’m delighted that you’ve adopted the quick and simple remedy for that recalcitrant turntable and reaped the benefit from the sage adage that one gets what one pays for. I’m sure that your plan to finish off the making good works will be efficiently completed, as you plan the storage shuffle epic.
Still no significant modelling here, as I continue to battle with the gardens here and at the house three hours up the road. Hope someone buys it soon, so I can stop digging out brambles!
Best,
Bill
PS *motor homes are also available
No tent right now although Doreen has been muttering, only half joking, about a fire proof covering for the roof.
Lytton, the town that was burnt down, is about 3 hours drive from. Its totally devastated….. the photographs are reminiscent of Hamburg or Dresden right after WWII. We have had some rain here but not in the interior.
Its definitely been a summer to remember
It must be very tiresome trying to prepare and sell a property so far away from your home. I do hope a suitable buyer turns up soon and you will be able to find more time for Newton Regis.
Best Wishes

That certainly puts a discussion about TTs and RR&Co in perspective. Yikes indeed!Hi John. You do paint a very pleasing picture of what is possible with a fully RR & Co controlled turntable. Maybe I will have to revist it at some point we will have to see. Although the bomb shell yesterday was a comment by SWMBO - "I know we moved to Spain and said the plan was for a least 15 years, I think I would be swinging towards moving back to the UK at the end of theat time". Quick calculation - we are almost half way through - yikes.

We've been here in France for 20 years although I remember the day we came here as if it were yesterday. Our time in France still feels like an "interlude" in our lives. The really sobering thought is that I doubt we'll see another 20 years wherever we are and that really does pull one up a bit !!!

Yes, I think once you get to a certain age you start to think about these things. I'm only 74, so I reckon another 50 years or so. ;-)Time does indeed fly Dave - looking back over your years in Spain, I'll bet it only seems like yesterday since you moved there.

The front of the Talbot has looked rather strange since its opening six months ago.
Plenty of Cars and Taxis but until last week…. no people!
I should add that Granby Town Council have carried out some much need road repairs since this photo was taken.
Moving left to right some rather cruel close ups
Two chauffeurs converted from WWI soldiers
Their chat is about to be interrupted……Colonel Sir David Powell MC rtd. has finished his lunch:
Of course, his tie really should have navy stripes (Royal Welch Fusiliers) but there are limits to my painting
I am afraid that the Head Porter looks a bit like an Austrian general. I wanted him to have a top hat to go with his frock coat. Sadly couldnt find a suitable figure so settled for a Victorian stationmaster and some gold paint.
Struggled to think of a legend for this gentleman. He is too fashionably dressed to be a commercial traveler, and they dont stay at the Talbot. Perhaps a Sales Director up from London?
No problems with this guy. Its Dave Thomas emerging from the Public Bar. Looking rather enviously at the toffs and their posh motors before crossing Chester Road to catch a Crossville Bus.
To finish, a couple of shots from the Box Brownie:
I hope you enjoyed my flights of fancy. Next week, not before time, some loco shots
Regards from Vancouver where we are enjoying some much needed rain

Fabulous photos of some fabulous modelling. These new figures have really brought an already stunning scene to life. They were presumably chosen with these cameos in mind - if not, then you have spun an entirely believable story around their presence at the Talbot.
You always have an uncanny ability to recall real-life scenes and transpose them into 4mm scale so perfectly. Your modelling skills are something to behold but they are easily matched by your story telling. Put the two together and you create something that should really have a much wider audience than that afforded by model railway forums (or should that be fori ?)
Please, please keep the photographs (and videos) flowing. :doublethumb

Once again you have given us some fantastic examples of modelling and photos. I am amazed but also wondering, if I should give up modelling because I am not at the same level as you!
Don't worry - I will take up the challenge :thumbs

Thanks Barry. You are quite right there is a resemblance but I think Colonel Powel’s suit is better cut than Mainwarings:lol:Excellent John

Peter you are far too kind but I am glad you like the cameos. Its not always the case but you are right, the figures were pretty much bought to go in specific places on the hotel front and match up with the Oxford motors. The exception would be Dave Thomas (someone rightly pointed out on RMWeb that is should have been Dai! ) he has been around for a while just wasnt sure where to put him. The “legends†were more or less dreamed up last night while sipping the one glass of wine I am currently allowedOh how I've missed your superb posts over the last few weeks John - you have just brightened up a dull, overcast day in what is proving to be a dreadful summer.
