I do hope that a collective reply is in order. It was very kind of all of you to take the time and trouble to write to me. It was very much appreciated.
Best wishes and many thanks

I seemed to spend most of July swallowing innumerable pills (which made me indolent and sleepy) and trying to keep out of the sun and clear of the smoke from the forest fires in the interior.
Forced indoors, I spent most of my time staring at this hole in the ground and continuing with my futile attempts to repair the bridge of the storage yard turntable.
I guess I could have run some trains on the rest of the layout but the non functioning turntable was just too frustrating and demotivating.

Happily the temperature has now dropped, the smoke has cleared somewhat and the pills have done their job.
Newly energised, I decided enough was enough and solved the turntable issue by the simple but expensive expedient of buying a new one .
Actually it wasn't that simple, Fleischmann have stopped making H0/00 turntables and cleared all their spare parts. Fortunately I tracked down a complete unit in Germany. A week later it was delivered, hooked up and working like a dream!
Here is Large Prairie 4124 crawling on to the centre of the bridge
Lots of work still to be done….The storage tracks have to be painted and ballasted, one of the approach roads has to be re-aligned, the turntable surround weathered and blended with the baseboard and an extension made for the Scalescene retaining wall
Most of the RR&Co routines already work seamlessly so the plan is for a video, provisionally titled "The storage shuffle" to be produced in the fall.
Oh dear, I almost forgot to include a pannier:

Pleased to hear you solved the turntable problem - just in time by the sounds of it if Fleischmann have stopped production. Is yours model 6152 ? I found a new one for sale here in NSW for a mere $930 ! Free postage !!
Good to see you included a second photo with the pannier in clear view. I hope you haven't been neglecting them in my absence

I haven't tackled the repairs to mine yet - not too much modelling time available currently….

Have Fleischmann stopped building them altogether or just superceded this with a newer model ?
I'm looking forward to the next epic video from Granby …….. :cheers

I’m delighted that you’ve adopted the quick and simple remedy for that recalcitrant turntable and reaped the benefit from the sage adage that one gets what one pays for. I’m sure that your plan to finish off the making good works will be efficiently completed, as you plan the storage shuffle epic.
Still no significant modelling here, as I continue to battle with the gardens here and at the house three hours up the road. Hope someone buys it soon, so I can stop digging out brambles!
Best,
Bill
PS *motor homes are also available
At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi DaveHi John. Turntable coming along well - the three far tracks are very close together, I bet that was a challenge. There are times when enough is enough and it has to be a replacement. I assume it is all controlled through RR & Co. Haven't made my mind up on mine yet. I envisage RR & Co leaving a train on the approach road to the industrial and steam shed area for manual operation within so a fully RR & Co controlled turntable may be a bit overkill. In terms of temperature we have warnings for up to 46 deg C around here next week, As long as Boris doesn't change the rules again, we are going back to the UK to visit family and friends in September - a bit of rain, cloud and cold never seemed so inviting.
You are right those three tracks are too close. The centre track was a bit of an afterthought so I will have to re-align the right hand track.
Believe me a turntable that is completely controlled by TC is an absolute joy. TC treats the turntable just like a turnout in a route. Imagine a schedule from a running line to the TT entry line, on to the bridge and thence to shed line 2……..the bridge is currently aligned with shed line 5. When you start the schedule the loco will move out of the running line and on to the entry line….. at the same time the bridge will move to align with the entry line…….the loco will stop in the entry line until the bridge is correctly aligned…..the loco then enters and stops in the centre of the bridge…….once the loco has stopped the bridge moves to shed line 2……. depending on the exit orientation that you specified in the schedule block instructions …the bridge will take either the most direct route or turn through 180o + -
…….once the bridge has stopped at shed line 2 the loco leaves the bridge and stops at the designated stop marker on the siding……….all with one button click!
It is difficult to do this with all makes of TT hence my perseverance with Fleischmann.
Your approach of operating with RR&Co up to the entry line and thereafter manually will work but you will have to remember to go into the computor and change the loco orientation each time you turn it. Otherwise when the loco rejoins the TC operation you will have an unexpected result!
Do you have air conditioning at home in Spain? Few homes have them in the Pacific North West. On the coast we rarely have summer temperatures above the high 20s.
I do hope all the regulations get sorted before your holiday and you have a trouble free trip. I guess you will be coming back loaded with goodies?
Best wishes

Yes mine is 6152C…………I think the C indicate there is a switchable isolated section at the bridge ends, to stop locos inadvertently running off the bridge. With TC its actually a pain and I had to permanently connect the isolated sections.
Wow $930 aus is over the top……. better to try and find one in Germany…….there is a bargain one at under $500 but it is in Roumania
Glad you liked the Pannier

Hi MichaelHi John, great to see you back modelling - and breaking yourself back in with something as simple as fitting a new turntable, with all the associated complications! But even more pleased that you are well and energised.
Michael
Thank you for your good wishes. I hope you had a relaxing holiday before returning to handle all this grade prediction! Rather you than I
The turntable wasnt that complicated to fit. I actually just had to clip the bridge into the existing well which was already wired up and programmed. Ideally all I needed was a replacement motor unit for the bridge…….the piece at the end
So yes I have a surplus brand new well along with a previously used non working bridge

One learns to be philosophical about these things.
