Hi MichaelHi John
Hardy's Hobbies do a waitress in a pinny… although she is holding a teapot! I'm sure you could do something about that. Also Pullman staff who could be made to look like a waiter…..And an IKB who might also work as a a character - or even a statue!
Michael
Many thanks for directing me to the Hardy’s Hobbies site….I was aware of them but not of the extent of the range…..there are some very useful “civilians†there including the waitress and Pullman staff. Not sure about Brunel though…..I have to keep an eye on Peter’s health:lol:

I have seen one Sir Nigel somewhere…..I will try and remember the manufacturer. Not for me though, I already have the war memorial in the square…….might be more appropriate at Maxmilll
Edited …..found it…yours for £2.70…..although its missing the duck.

A bit of trivia about life in the UK during and immediately after WWII
Before I realised that the hotel would finished up so far back from the railway I started to acquire figures and bit and pieces to detail the rear kitchen.
You now need binoculars or a cruel close up to see them but it seemed a shame to waste them
I intended the two cooks, having a crafty fag, to be chatting up a waitress but am still looking for a suitable figure. They had to be sous chefs (short navy/black hats) because they are actually Modelu footplate men with the cap peaks filed off.
The guy on the left has been in my bits box for years. A Montys Models dust bin man but I wanted him to be seen emerging from the kitchen so I googled "UK Pig Swill 1947"………as part of the war effort dustbins painted green with "Pig Food" stenciled on a white background were used to collect all waste food stuff.
So here is the Talbot's rack of Bins ready for the weekly pick up.
The Bins were issued to each street where they were often chained to a lamp post
You will have to imagine the chain!
Apparently the collection system continues on through the late forties although I must confess I dont remember any cans in our road.
One can never accuse Granby of lacking detail!
In other news:

Meantime I need to run some trains……but before doing so I have to come to a decision about the geriatric storage turn table and resolve a tiresome sporadic short on the branch line…..I could be away for some time!
I have definitely made up my mind

Hopefully not ………but it wouldn' t be the first time  It must be one of the worst things to go wrong on an automated model railway………the loco is convinced its journey has ended and moves purposefully off the bridge….the bridge is equally convinced it has to continue rotating…….disaster.
Glad you like the Bin story……I find it fascinating digging out this trivia.
Best wishes

Transcript from proceedings at the recent NW District Sessions
M' Lud', members of the Jury, what we have here is our learned colleague trying to pull a fast one. I refer you all to exhibit 1 Item 6
Exhibit 1
wherein is shown the aforementioned "missing" turntable clearly present at the scene of the "crime" on 28th October 2019 and not absent for over a decade as the claimant asserts. This honorable establishment does not take lightly, attempts to pull the wool over our eyes and requests the witness to stick to the facts!
(and yes, I've probably been watching too much Rumpole and Vera since COVID)
