N / OO9 Two scales one gauge

There is power to the rails across the centre of the crossover.  The unpowered sections seem to be between the tiny plastic bosses in the point blades and those between the frog and the crossing itself.  Hmmm.

I'm catching up Rick - the cottage and wall look brilliant but that poor horse needs a good feed !!  If you take that to an exhibition, you'd have the animal rights brigade down on you like a ton of bricks.

I'd love to help you with your wiring but I follow that well known addage - red to red, green to green, blue to bits …………….!!!

Mine is much the same.  Track feeds are red to red / black to black.  Point motor feeds are the same with the addition of green to green.  Signal feeds (using the Dapol semaphore wiring scheme) are also red to red / green to green plus yellows to yellows - it doesn't matter which yellow to which as you can swap them if the signal doesn't work as planned.  For anything else it's orange (sundries) or blue (when I haven't got any of the right colour but  I don't want to do the "blue to bits" thing)

Appreciate the thought Ed.  There does seem to be some debate about the right way to wire this thing.  Trouble is that the switch is quite small so un-soldering and re-jigging the wires is not going to be an easy task.  And of course there is still no guarantee that I'd get it right.  Because no one source seems to know what "right" actually is.

Spare time today has been spent scratch-building two cold frames for the cottage garden. The greenhouse was too big; these are more in keeping with theme and scale.

Don’t ask me what’s growing. My knowledge of purple / white flowering plants is about as good as my understanding of layout electrics!

That dirty white fence dividing cottages and railway first appeared on Penhayle Bay in Australia around 15 years ago

Some actual action as Williams takes crushed and dressed slate down towards the main line as one of the diesels coasts off the mountain with a mixed passenger and goods train

Yes I like that, Rick. Nice smooth running. Did you have any luck with the crossing?

Cheers Pete.

Whilst I'm not a big fan of narrow gauge - either full size or in model form, you've got some very smooth running there Rick - well done Sir. :staff_silvio5nm:

Driver Dafydd “The Stone” Williams takes another load of dressed slate from Mynydd Meghan out of Tŷ Bach on its way to the rooftops of the nation.

In between today’s multiple power cuts due to wild weather I finished weathering the tiny slate wagons. The loads are removable but too much handling will affect some of the powders. A long-term hope is to obtain a second rake to run as empty “returns” and with the slate inserts then piled around the station area as “loads to go”.

Work has included applying Rail Match “rust” paint to couplers, wheels, axle-boxes and body frames with the latter being dry-brushed.  “Soot black” weathering powder was then applied with random additions of brown and grey. The slate loads were brushed over with the black then wiped back to show the edges and some sheen on the dressed slates.

Thank you sir. It’s not the LNER main line that’s for sure but when it runs it does so quite nicely

Some detailing work today

The V-skips have been rusted since almost the day the packs were opened and were used as such on Porthgarrow with most of the locos now at Tŷ Bach.

The frames, however, were not dealt with. Until today.

First trial was on the bits of broken wagon; deliberately dismantled as a spare would be more accurate.

The skip itself has gained green stuff (and some interesting red stuff too - best not investigate that!) fixed with hair spray to its rusted body.

Then all the frames and wheels of the full empty rake were painted with Rail Match “rust” overbrushed whilst tacky with black weathering powder.

The laden rake is next up.
