A small 00 Branch Line
Thanks Peter.Strangely, three of the locos were acquired by accident. A few years ago I gave some to a friend who was trying out DCC but he never really managed to get around to it. Last year, sadly he died, and a few weeks ago his wife contacted me and asked if I wanted them back. I decided to take them, that gave me three additional locos, chipped and ready to go.
I like 0-6-0s as they do not look too bad on the tight curves, inevitable on an 8 x 4 layout. But, they need stay alive for smooth running.

My stubby fingers find it difficult to get much inside the bodywork of an 0-6-0 ……………………………..

I use LAIS 8 pin 4 function DCC with stay-alive option. They seem to work well in the litte Hornby locos. The decoder and stay-alive can be hidden away in the smoke box or in the bunker.

I have used those Lais stay-alives before (on non-sound chips) and they do seem to work OK but with sound, I try to use super caps which are more akin to the old "brick" mobile phones ……………………..

The Lais stay alives work well with sound too. With the charging circuit built in they make the running faultless. With Zimo sound decoders, the duration of the cap's run time can be adjusted, too.

I didn't know that Pete - maybe I should look at them in a new light …………………
