Thank you Max, Owen and Pete.

I had a day away from modelling yesterday but have spent a good bit of time this afternoon on growing the riverbank a little more so here are a few pics just to show progress.

An overall shot during fitting of weeds

A few more weeds were then made from seed heads, doormat fibres and anything else I considered useful.

Looking across the river

A final view down the river

I think it will take a few more days to get it all done down to the bridge as it is a slow tedious job but I think worth it in the end, once I am happy with all the banks and water it will be time for more trees.

Catch you later

Thanks for all the replies and support.

I had to have a few days away from the shed but when I kept seeing that picture at the top it spurred me on to make it look better, so every spare minute has been put to good use - I need a new doormat now - to try and complete the scene.

I think it is getting there but still quite some way to go yet.

Initially I wasn't too sure about the photo back-scene but the more I plant things a little way in front of it the more it seems to add depth, therefore it may become a permanent fixture.

I hope to complete a little more this evening.

I think that you are on a winner there Jim.
The back scene makes a big difference but the river banks are the real gem. Keep at it with the trees… a few more will bring it alive.
cheers

Hello again everyone,

Is it really nearly three years since I last posted, incredible.

Looking through the last few posts many of you will remember my wife Linda was suffering a lot from her MS which took most of my time in caring for her, this was further compounded by getting Acute Myeloid Leukemia which eventually caused her to pass away at the beginning of this year. I thought I would soon have time to get back into modelling but that proved overly optimistic as the reality took hold.

I am now getting back to a normal life albeit in a different way, I now have to catch up on jobs around the house & garden before any modelling starts again, but I thought now is a good time to catch up on here before that time arrives.

So what has happened. Well things still kept moving along very slowly whenever I could manage it so this is going to be a brief update to bring you all up to date.

Hemyock has moved on but Tiverton Junction has not and remains pretty much as it was 3 years ago, so here are the changes so far.

I left you with the backscene and river in the last post looking over the small trestle bridge, I was never reaally convinced by that so it was all ripped out and another 75mm or so added to the depth with a narrow board and some new handmade trees, I wanted to try and get more perspective to the scene so these were made in ever decreasing size toward the back and flat enough to layer.

So here is the new scene.

I was then a case of filling in the open pasture opposite the station and also in the foreground, the hedge under construction at the front was one of the early changes'

Once that was complete some lineside fencing was added and the willow tree completed.

The open pasture then started to get filled with more hedges and trees to start creating depth.

Once that was complete I felt much happier with the outcome and feel I have captured the realism I was after.

An overall shot prior to some of the above shots but worth adding.

The Hemyock Oak was then added to create even more perspective when viewed through the lens, note the young lad looking into the hollow in the tree.

A farm is also under construction and this shows the leaded windows I made for it based on a real local farm of the of the early 1900s.

The farhouse and barn nearing completion, this is what I was working on and hope to resume with in a few months time, A lot more outbuildings to go yet.

So that really is all that has happened, not a lot in the grand scheme of things but enough to keep the modelling fire burning within me as the layout finally gets nearer to completion, a lot later than I originally thought when I started it but life always like to chuck a few obstacles in our way.

I hope to post further updates toward the end of the year or maybe sooner if I get all the other jobs out the way.

All the best

Jim

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your wife.  I am sure that she would be justly proud of the fine model you have created.  A lot of us, I feel certain, who have come to the forum in recent times have just spent a very enjoyable hour reading the previous posts and catchng up on this beautiful version of Hemyock.  You are brave to rip up whole sections and start again but the results speak for themselves.

Good luck with Tiverton Junction - we are looking forward to seeing it.  No doubt it will be as good as the terminus.

Kind regards

Barry

I will add my condolences too, Jim.

Lovely modelling.  And great to see an autumnal scene.  I think that is really hard to model but you have captured it superbly.  Nature's colours do not always scale well, but I think you have created a really authentic scene.  Very clever.  Intrigued by the weeping willow - they are really hard to get right.  How did you do yours?

Regards

Michael
