End to End with Cassette Fiddleyard

Right I am going to call this done for now until it get fully installed in the harbour.

After a bit of a stall due to other stuff getting in the way, some progress.

All track currently laid is now painted.

Started on getting the first platform started, once the frame is built and strong enough it will be removed to have the tops done on the bench.





Also started connecting up the turnouts using rods, wire in tube and cranks where needed ala Gormo, apart from I wont have his nice levers, probably just a Knob.

So made up this as a prototype Turnout Operating Unit, using tube, wire and chock block inners, seems to work OK, will be fixed by two screws so can be removed if it does fail for repair or replacement.



Weather and dark nights are going to stop most of the progress in the shed weekday evenings, I do have lighting and heating but will probably concentrate on getting some of the buildings built.

Some more progress on the first platform, the unfinished end needs to be intergrated with the station building so I need to start thinking about building one.

Clearance checked with Tornado (still needs the detailing parts installed).







Also started on some track for the main terminus that is above the fiddle yard, still need to gap some of them and install tiebars, but will do that as I lay them incase they need to be customised for the position.

Started on a Water Tower

Start with a plan, Ice Cream and Margarine tub lids, a CD Case and some wire.



Emboss some rivet detail using a knitting needle, re-inforce using strips of the CD Case and then start to assemble.





Cut out roof, scored to make it bend easier, started making H beams from CD Case



Make it into a box, floor from CD Case, made me chuckle when I saw the "This packaging can not be recycled" urmmm, yes it can but not maybe in the way they think :-)



Experimented with a little tool to make corrugated sheeting from thick foil, it worked but the corrugations came out at a scale 4-5 inches so a bit big, could be useful in the future though for other things, and may try knocking one up with the wire closer together, ended up doing rivetted sheets like the sides.



Made the first of the leg assemblies, from CD Case H beams, wire and a bit of plastic tube.



Progress so far, access hatch added.

Still to do the wire supports for the short side of the legs, needs a level indicater coming out of the hatch near the side of the tank, fill pipes up to the middle of the underside and ladder to the access hatch, and paint, need to think on how to do the ladder, may just rob one from a Ratio signal kit.



Total cost so far…. a bit of Liquid Poly

Well done Andy it looks proper er proper, a ladder, you know those signs the corrugated plastic type that estate agents put up? if you can find something like that and take a thin sliver off one it looks like a miniature ladder,( I saw it done at Stafford show ).

Good idea Pete I have some 6mm twinwall under the car port, so that would give me a scale 15" rung width, sharp blade kept upright required for cutting.

Got to be worth an experiment.

Score the CD case a few times with a stanley sized knife, then snap it off, I use a small pair of needle nose plyers to snap of the thin strips, slowly working along the length, larger bits you can usually snap with just your hands.

Right, Ladder experiment based on Pete's suggestion, seems to work, I have the side stays down to 1mm so far but I will try later with a SERB (Single Edge Razor Blade) to see if I can get it thinner, I think it will be fine for an industrial style ladder, you can get this stuff in 4mm as well which I think would work for signal or lamp post ladders, need to go check out the local estate agent boards that get thrown in the hedges…

Managed to get all the rest of the bits knocked up and stuck on, then as the weather was kind on Sunday, got some primer on it, I am going to leave it at this for now as I think it would suit a industrial site so as I have a couple of industry sidings already down, I just need to decide on what industry and the colours for the tank, I think the tank would look good with the company name on it.











And thanks to Alan for the header photo, thats two now, always a nice suprise when you logon and find it there
