End to End with Cassette Fiddleyard

With the Amazon it would be more like what can he eat to go with Jamie Olivers fingers, he doesn't like men much and a Wallnut shell gets crushed like its a grape.

A bit of ballasting and started on some contours for the first bit of terra-forming.

Been a while since I updated this.

Not a lot been happening through the winter as other stuff has got in the way again.

I was never happy with the left side dogbone so ripped it out over the winter and new trackbed knocked up and re-layed in a similar style to the right side as above, so now I am happy more testing will commence for a while then I can start ballasting that end.

I did have a go at scratchbuilding some level crossing gates.

Tried some offcuts of balsa that I had left from the last plane.

Some flyscreen mesh and white paint

Have done the red discs but forgot to photograph them, just need hinges but will do that when I install them.

One of the other reasons I have not done much over the winter was I played with making 3D pictures using plastic model kits like below and friends and family all wanted one so I have been busy.

I found an old superquick barn in a box in the shed so rather than dumping it I tried re-covering it.

Before…

After…

I think it will be usable in the background somewhere.

Thats it for now, need to get going again and get some scenery started.

Hi Andy.   Very good shed. Handsome layout, Excellent Set of points, can't say they would be so Straight or cheap if I had attempted to make them. And they probably wouldn't get finished either. Keep up the good work Kevin

Great to see some progress Andy. It's all a matter of balancing priorities isn't it! Nice makeover on the barn.

Not much progress as I have been busy dismantling my late fathers layout (carefully) so I can use a lot of the bits and pieces, but have put up some backboards and given them an initial base coat of paint.

And some scenery construction has started.

ps. Uploaded using Edge, which seems to be playing OK now.

Hi Andy.   Keep up the good work. Next think you will require is a bigger shed. Way back in1958 my father promised to buy me a model railway for Christmas , but the train never arrived. Didn't see much of my father either. But Mum came up with a Triang TT train set.   All the best Kevin

Looks nice Andy, back scene looks good too.

Kevin, I always like TT as a perfectly sized scale between OO and N. It's a shame the rtr manufacturers dropped it.

Hi Pete.    Thank you for your reply.  That was a very long time ago, and sometimes I think back and wish I still had a TT layout IMHO the perfect scale, convenient for modern living without being so fiddly as N.  All the best. Kevin

Yep, the perfect scale. An uncle had a TT layout that filled a room of his house in Tooting. He left me alone in there for a whole day to play with it when I was  lad, sometime in the '50's, what a day.

I've just noticed for the first time that you live in Peckham. I went out with a girl from there, a cousin of my mate. He broke up a fight in The Walmer Castle where a young bloke was getting bashed half to death and had clearly had enough. Next thing we knew, one of the three of us was hit in the face with a glass… no reason except that his mate had been pulled off. They turned out to be a load of barrow boys from the Rye somewhere. Nasty so and so's. Got locked up for their trouble.

Cheers Pete.

First lot of greenery started, this has given me the incentive to get going again - just wish it would stop raining.

Landscaping is made using corrugated card formers with a lattice of thin card all glued on with the hot glue gun followed by layers of green C-fold paper towels glued papier-mâché style using a PVA water/meths mix.

Static grass is a mix of 2.5mm, 4mm & 6mm and four colours applied using a puffer bottle, a home made Flyswat applicator and a balloon.

The road has a base of plaster covered with sieved on ash from charcoal briquettes, just needs a few colour washes for variation.

Signal box is there for the level crossing, a low relief cottage has been made for the gap at the back by the road to be followed by a load of trees and bushes as this section is to be mainly forest type vegetation.

More photos to come as I progress.

This section is lift out so that I can get to the track in the tunnel, also makes it easier to work on and detail on the bench.

A bit more done.

Still loads to do on this lift out section… But, we are considering a house move so things may slow a bit.

Although it is L girder frame work I did build it in sections in case it needed to be moved to a new home, its just some of the trackbed that would have to be cut through for a move.

Hopefully I won't have to take the axe to it all.

Cheers

Hi, I managed a house move last year, although the fiddle yard was dismantled the main station boards were OK and used in a bigger shed after storing for a couple of months.Good luck on your move…
