Well after a break from any modeling yesterday I decided that I have to clear the junk out and finish this blooming railway! You may remember I posted a while back about a garage that I made for my nephew. Since it arrived back it has been stood taking up space waiting for me to remove all the stuff for future use. Most of the electroincs have been removed with a number of led's still to recover. There was also some 00 scenic stuff as well like fences, etc. Last night the 'stuff' came in usefull in helping to finish a section of scenery!! :thumbs
The area in question is the bit between the canal and the exit to the garden. Last month you will remember that I covered the front with some carpet. This has now been trimmed and some thick card glued over the top. With some of the bits recovered it now looks like…

Construction work has started on the railway bridge covering the exit to the garden. This will be of a box girder design. Now who lives in a house like this?? I wish!!

Where the house is standing will eventualy be a housing estate on a lift up board. One thing that I have always wanted to model since seeing it in model rail is a construction site. So some of the houses will be complete while a couple will be still under construction.

Na it was just cold last night. ;-)

Decided to make the most of a good day weather wise and start a job that I had been putting off. This was the instalation of the first section of wires outdoors. The section in question runs from the anchor mast near byerley parkway signal box past the prison under the motorway and down as far as the signal gantry. Things were going ok untill I ran out of brass so im missing a couple of registration arms. Heres some piccys…..

Thanks guys. Thought a few mesurements would put the scale of the OHLE into perspective? From the anchor mast past to the end of the completed section is about 13'. From here to the garage entrance is another 4'. The gantries are in place on this bit im just short of brass for the arms although I have a cunning plan! The overlap section with the booster transformers is 4' From anchor mast no2 it is another 16' to the garden proper. This section runs through parkway (birmingham int) and still requires gantries to be fitted. When parkway was first built I installed two headspan supports. These have been damaged over the winter and although they can be repaired I will actualy replace them with the standard gantry. Hopfully scrapping them will give enough brass rod to finish off the other gantries. So the total length of the OHLE to be installed is roughly 30' Out in the garden I will just be installing the gantries for the time being. Two reasons 1 is from a distance you carn't see the wires anyway and 2 we have a black bird that lives in the garden and likes to use the track bed as a footpath! Eventualy I would like to build some covers to fit over the railway to protect it from animals and the occasional football that lands in the garden! So one day there may be wires hung over that large viaduct.  ;-)
