Thanks for all the comments regarding the OHLE. I did take some pics of how I did the wiring I just need to do a tutorial to add to the one I did about making the gantries. Talking of gantries the one I have just built with the booster transformers on came very close to being distroyed yesterday as I caught my foot on it whilst steping over the layout carrying a colour monitor. Fortunatly I managed to straighten it out again so I will have to be more carfull next time! Having said that the layout came very close to being scrapped yesterday as a few small problems wound my temper to boiling point. It started when I decided to get my old video camera out to shoot some vid of the OHLE. After the aformentioned accident I set up the gear then tried to run some trains. First I discovered a short that lead to me disconnecting several wire loops mostly burried in the new balast. The fault was traced to the relays next to the washing plant. I had accidently pulled one of the cables from under the baseboard. Anyway with that resolved I tried again only for the trains to either get stuck outside involving a clamber back over the layout and walking round to the other side of the wall or derailing. Once these problems were sorted I had a short again so I did all the fault finding again to find that the tempory wires from the controler had bare insulation in the middle and had shorted when I had placed the video monitor on them! By the time I got sorted it had gone dark. Then I started having problems with an old hornby curved point. ARHHHH!!!!!

After some 'thought' I decided that I could live with the point as apart from my current work situation the thought of ripping up all the track again after just getting it painted was to much to bare! So I figured that it was about time I started on the control panel as I have all the switches, etc. For the panel itself I have decided to keep things simple so I will be using a piece of laminate flooring to mount the switches on. The switches came off some old control panels that I rescued out of the works skip a few years ago. They are all push buttons that can be back lit. So the plan is to use two switches one red one green to control each set of crossovers. I have some blue ones that will switch the power and some blue/green that I will use for the isolating sections. Train control will be from a gaugemaster twin panel mount controler whilst I have a gaugemaster hand held with feedback that I can use for the branch lines. Today I have had some good news. I had a call earler about an interview for a factory job so hopefully this will help us get back on our feet although half an hour later I had another call about a service engineers job so I am waiting for a call back about an interview. So in the meantime im going to make a start on cutting out all the square holes for those switches! ;-)

Amazing work. Most shy away from over head wires but you must have enormous patience doing what you have done, with excellent results too.  The layout is coming superbly.

Thanks Max. Spent most of the afternoon trying again to get some more video footage of the garden railway. A quick clean of the rails and one track joint to repair then we were off untill the power supply for my camcorder blew up!! A rummage around the house produced a 6v supply that I had to make do with. Unfortunatly the camera would work ok in playback but when set to recording it needed some persuasion. Then came the task of capturing the video to the PC. Eventualy I managed to edit the damm thing only to have three attampts at rendering the finished file. Just spent over an hour uploading to you tube so I will put the link up when available. Note to self pay off overdraft then get a new camera!

Dave.  Don't know if you've heard of schardenfreuder - not sure of the spelling - it's a German word (no kidding!) which tries to encapsulate the feeling of relief when the 'master' has to work a bit harder.  It makes we mortals feel a bit better when you video Gods hit a bump!

We're all rooting for you - it's an American expression . . . with your job interview/s.
