Great stuff Dave,

Thanks for the demo with the scalescene's shops, inspiring.

When you get the snowplough don't forget we want a video of it in action… should be entertaining.

Seriously though, I'm thinking garden running is now impossible until the thaw sets in?

After seeing other outdoor layouts on the internet one of wich is inside the artic circle! (link to follow when I find it) I dont realy think that the snow would be a problem. However the two car wash sponges that bung up the holes in the garage wall and the still incomplete control system might!

A bit more progress on the houses……

To help light the inside of the buildings I have had to fit some floors in. The floors only fit in halfway allowing the light to shine on all three levels. The light has been difused by gluing some bog roll over the led's and also gluing some across the windows to act as curtains. One house in the street is having a loft conversion. This will give a good excuse for a skip outside. The plywood panels were included with the scalescenes kits….

Night time……

Work has now moved on to the shops. ;-)

Dave, just wanted to check something re the lighting, presumably they are wired up in parallel, but are those 1k resistors you are using (on the positive leg I assume?), and what do you use as a power supply?

Lawrence, resistors can go in either leg of LEDs/globes as they are not polarity concious.

like the loft conversion, I do think adding some 3D elements (like your loft timbers) make the eye find card models more life like.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Lawrence the led's are powered from a 12v dc power supply. Eventualy the completed board will be wired to the layouts 12v dc power supply ( old PSU from a PC!) First I would like to say the darlington show was a big disapointment although it was good to meet up with Owen. All the stalls were offering the same 'new' locos for similar prices with only one stall with any second hand stuff (overpriced!) Anyway I did eventualy buy three items being two transit vans and a series 3 landrover in yellow british telecom livery. After chatting to Owen regarding lighting in vehicals later that afternoon I bought a couple of fiber optic decorations that woolworths were selling off. I have experemented with these by fitting some to a bus so in due time the rest will be fitted! Moving on to the layout I have finished the chippy and the first shop. The lighting of these has been positioned so that it lights the shop and the signwriting. The light in the chippy even lights up the inside of the menu! Here's some more pic's…..

Night time….

As always looks good, one suggestion if you havent already thought of it, in the last shop it seems like everyone is home lights on curtains open, any chance of turning some of the lights off (black out a couple of windows or some thin coloured curtains) sorry its just the dad in me always telling the kids to turn off lights !

Thanks for the replies. Forgot to mention the resistors are 1k.;-)

John I know what you mean about turning off some of the lights unfortunatly I glued the roofs on so now I have no access to the inside of the windows (DOH!!!) Actualy when the board is in place on the layout the lights dont look as bright as they do in the pic's. Also I will be placing a street light outside the shop so it should distract the eye.;-)

A corner streetlight will finish it off perfectly. What a top job it is! Haddock and chips for me please. Oh - and a model rail mag.

Wonderful job Dave, I like what you have done inside Dixon's. That give it so much more depth.
