Thanks Owen hopefully tomorrow I can get a bit more done. Im thinking of adding a big street light in the middle of the carageways. Been to B&Q tonight to get some more 'spray on balast' along with some paint for the decking so busy day tomorrow provided the rain keeps off that is! Also got some timber to build some much needed cable ducts along the fence. Think I do less work at work!

speaking of the fastest modeller . . . I know he will be too modest to say so, but I know Iansa once built a complete layout during a three day exhibition, from scratch.

Thanks guys the motorway sign was made from old lengths of rail some bits of brass and a couple of white leds that were stripped off some cheep christmas decorations last year. The sign itself was downloaded off the highway code website then sized, printed then laminated. Well spured on by the sucess so far with the laminator I have decided that the space next to the motorway needs somthing big to give the layout some depth so I am in the process of printing off a scalescenes warehouse kit before sticking it through the laminator. Should prove intresting watch this space!! Ok yesterday not much happened as I spent all day painting the handrails around the decking although I did manage to build three lengths of cable ducting along the fence. Today the sun is shining and the blooming wind has dropped and what am I doing? painting the decking!!! Unfortunatly the paint is turning pink so looks like I will have to paint somthing more 'sutable' later. I have just managed to 'balast the garden section around the level crossing. Big thanks to RJR who sugested the use of stone effect paint last year on his own garden railway. I still need to spray the top protective coat but heres a few pics to give an idea….

Todays pullman is hauled by 86243 'the boys brigade' (125 aniversary this year)…..

Lakeside station in the distance….

Looking back across the garden to Woodham station and the viaduct…….

Lakeside station has a king of 'Beaching look' to it………

To get the run down 'rat look' simply stick buildings outdoors then subject them to two big dogs with full bladders for a few months!…….

More later.;-)

Good stuff that flecspray !! Swine to clean off if you ever want to reclaim the track though. You must have got through a few cans. Interestingly I never added the clear topcoat and it seemed to last okay.

Not sue how you apply the paint to the decking with a hair dryer though, some new fast method ??

Na the hairdryer was to dry out the decking before I could paint it! Well when I left off earler on I mentioned that I was thinking of adding a warehouse well here it is……..

Not as dificult as I first thought just a question of laminating the sheets first before cutting everything out. This afternoon I also painted the cable trunking black along with some bits of the sign…….

Here we have a drivers eye view…

And finaly a couple of the new balasted track with the rails painted…..

Looks like another wasted day tomorrow as I have to repaint the pink decking!

Dave, looks super! Just how do you get around in there to work on something? There doesn't look as if there's a spot big enough for my feet to fit in!

At the moment NONE!!! Sitting with my feet up. Thats something that I haven't done in a long time! No seriously The storage loops in the garage will hold three trains with another running out in the garden. The reed switches have been placed so that as a train heads away from lakeside station it sets off one from the storage sidings. So hopefully if I've measured correctly they should pass on the lower wall section. There is another storage loop at parkway station where it is intended that trains traveling towards the garage will change places. So this will effectively give me five complete trains running in sequence when the layout is in continuous run mode. This should leave me free to manually operate the branch line. The other mode of operation will be out and back where trains will be held at parkway station until required at the terminus. This is the operating mode that has caused the biggest headaches when designing the automated storage sidings as some of the trains will be worked push/pull so will at some point enter the sidings the wrong way round!

Ok todays update.

To try and regain some lost 'modeling time' I started repainting the decking at 7am with the help of a halogen work light. By 10am the colour was a bit more acceptable! However we have had very high winds today so I ended up running round with an electric screwdriver fastening things down. To stop the tarpaulin sheet from taking off I chucked an eight foot long fence post on top of it. The wind got so strong that it threw the post up in the air and it landed just short of the railway. I thought the worst was over until the wind got under one of the metal sheets that was laid on the lawn and flung it across the garden. Unfortunately it took woodham station, signal box and the footbridge with it! Still the buildings needed some 'repairs' anyway and the footbridge was due to have its electrification protection fitted so looks like the job has been brought forward. Judging by the UPS bleeping a moment ago looks like the mains supply may go off at some point. OH JOY!! Anyway on with the pics…

Heres the laminated scalescenes warehouse kit ………

Note the cable trunking running along the fence just behind the motorway sign…..

Now after building the warehouse I had an idea for something that I've never seen on a model railway before so before I post the rest of the pics I want to see if anyone can guess what it is……? The answer may provoke some intresting comments!
