Thanks John, actually it's a pain in the butt to do, cutting out the door and bonnet, that stuff is 1/16" thick, no room for jewellers saws :???:

As a restorer of vintage and classic stuff, pump up the tyres, wipe over with an oily rag, bit of plusgas and easy start and she,ll be a goer mate, jobs a guddun! Oh and a new battery!

Here's some more stuff :)  Dried tea and hot chocolate powder were added to the junk heap to help with the rust.

Outstanding Phil, really like the junk pile, and the shot of the street in colour or black and white marvellous modelling. Keep up the good work and the photo's of the updates too.

Always try to look on the bright side of life!

Hi Phil,

I've only just seen your well abused coal lorry and wow, it's a joy to behold and has then been set into context with the modelling of years of settlement and decay executed with a wonderful touch. I can see I'll have to spirit the bride's chocolate powder away under cover of darkness, but reckon I can recycle used tea leaves without too much conflict, probably after the third infusion!

Cheers,

Bill :)

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Brilliant shots Phil…….that little street scene looks so authentic……I dont know whether its an age and memory thing but to my my mind the Black and White shots somehow look more realistic than the ones in colour

I hesitate to make this suggestion, because you are clearly a far more accomplished craftsman than I will ever be ….but………..have you considered touching up the white bend lines on the Metcalfe units in the background, with either watercolour or crayon? To my mind it can make a significant difference.

Best Wishes

John

Thanks John,

B&W pictures as you probably know have always been used for greater effect as there's no chocolate box colours

I think it's a lot to do with the times when we were brought up, the street was modelled on the place I grew up in BTW…I still love old B&W films.

No problem with your suggestion, but the houses were built many many years ago and were just stored in that corner, they will probably not be used on the layout, if they are it will be in the far distance somewhere. The area where they are now will eventually have ground raising up to the backscene, so that will I expect be modelled next.

There are not that many places on the layout left that can be modelled, I'm running out of space  but the Station hasn't been done yet and the corner by the tunnel mouth on the opposite side of the room, but space is limited here unless I extend out a bit.

The area where the blue towel is (Put there to cover some junk for the picture!) has four or five rows of sidings, so something could be done there?

Phil

Well, that NCB lorry could certainly do with some spit and polish.

My apologies…..they looked so natural as background over the tunnel mouth I thought you were about to bed them in:oops:

The problem above the tunnel is it's shallowness, it is possible to put the houses there but not really prototypical, maybe just a shallow hill running towards the wall, also, I think there's too much going on in that area anyway to add houses/buildings etc?

The three Fenders on the floor are now on the vertical ceiling on the right, two weeks ago I bought another vintage Strat, a 1962 in Fiesta red, that will also go on that ceiling to make a bit of floor room.
