My now ex-SWMBO threw all my old hippy day's photo's away (what do you want to keep those for) now I think maybe it was not such a bad idea as my new SWMBO has no idea how bad I was  :mutley

Hi Phil. I went out, online, and purchased a Modelu guard, standing up at the rear of the Brake Van, but when the driver wasn’t looking he got off and got left behind. I have made a bigger mess looking for him, but, I will have to replace him. The only thing that I am uncertain of is the style of cap that he is wearing ( BR’s German style?) have you seen any other?   Best wishes Kevin

Sorry Kevin, I missed your post, as for the hat, I'm sure there are members here who know exactly what hats were used, but to be honest, I haven't that information

Nothing to do with railways but modelling, yes :)

I've just come across this model of a cart that I built from scratch in 1983, it was covered in thick dust which took a bit of removing, there are a couple of things missing but it scrubbed up well :)

The body part is 19.5cm long.

This will give an idea of size.

Hello Phil,

That's a beautifully crafted piece of work, so evocative of the pre-internal combustion way of life.

I was researching only yesterday, mainly in Russell's Great Western Horsepower, into horse drawn GWR carts and trolleys for the layout. I find myself leaning strongly towards the elegance of the earlier pre-war GWR years.

Thank you for sharing and good to hear from you again.

Best,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi Phil
As Bill said, its great to hear from you. The trap is definitely a reminder of your skill……its absolutely exquisite. You just need to buld one slightly smaller, let the dust accumulate and it will be perfect in the scrap yard on Pen y Bryn

Best wishes

Thanks Bill & John.

I also have found an 18th century Mail Coach that I built at the same time, much much more involved than the cart, however, there is a lot of cleaning to be done and there are parts missing, but when I get around to the "fix" I'll post pictures of it.

Hi Phil. After my question re the old style cap , the Modelu newsletter arrived, and Modelu actually have several caps on guards standing in various positions.  Best wishes Kevin

Wow - that cart is fantastic Phil - done, no doubt, between a pair of Purdeys…………….. ;-)

When you say "scratch built", do you mean everything - metalwork included ?  If so, it really is an amazing model and a brilliant example of your skills.

Did you built it "for fun", an "apprentice piece" or was it a commission or something ?

Can't wait to see the mail coach.

Thanks Peter, yes, all from scratch, including all metalwork and was built for fun as I just liked the look of it, I also have a coal wagon to clean up, but the mail coach is way over the top regarding the building work involved, inside & ouside wheel spokes, oil lamps, double spring suspension front and real, padded seats, opening doors and windows, blunderbuss hinged cover box, I could go on :) I've just give it a good clean, just brushing the dust was no good as the whole coach, (BTW the cab is covered with replica leather) had to be washed/brushed with soapy water.
One of the main lamps has to be soldered back on and a couple of missing things made, but it should be finished very soon.
