Petermac's Railway

Hi Peter

My apologies…I am afraid I missed all your troubles with the viaduct arches but I am certain that I could not have improved on Matt's comprehensive how to do it manual! I wish I had that guide when I struggled with a similar issue on my canal viaduct.

The bridge kit looks perfect for the other end of the room.  I am looking forward to learning about its construction.

Keep Well

The Post Lady arrived this morning bearing gifts :

Excellent packaging and fast delivery - no Brexit delays, taxes or duty so at least something is working.

It's a lovely, very detailed looking kit and should make up into a very smart bridge - provided the construction workers can do it justice !! :

Many thanks Doug for pointing me in this direction and to Bill and Michael for their thumbs up to Scale Model Scenery.  If this bridge turns out OK, I can see some more of their offerings making their way to France …… :cheers

Hi Peter,

Yes, they don't stand about with sending orders out and your bridge should go together without difficulty and their materials paint very well with acrylics. I have a parcel from them in transit right now and thanks to all their parcels having tracking, I know it's currently on or over la Manche, so should be in my post box very soon.

I use Rocket card glue to assemble thin MDF kits, as it dries very quickly, although PVA will also work well, but leave it a few hours before handling. I think that Chris has used lots of SMS's products on Teasel Bay and is also very happy with them and I understand they won a recent award for small model railway supplier of the year, to which I say, "bravo!"

Best,

Bill

It is going together very well Bill, and quickly too although some parts are very delicate - only to be expected given how accurate the model seems.

I did have the odd "moment" removing the parts from the sprue - you need a very thin blade !  This is the first time I've used laser cut MDF - ply is much more forgiving although I suspect as you say, MDF will take paint far better having no surface grain to contend with.

I don't have any Rocket card glue but found a bottle of Deluxe "Super 'phatic" which I must have bought when God was a lad …..

It's a very fluid glue with a long thin metal tube nozzle to apply it.  It says it has very good penetrating properties and, as Scale Model Scenery recommend Deluxe Super Aliphatic but with a product code that only differs by 1 letter, I'm assuming it's virtually the same product.  Certainly it seems to stick MDF well enough.

I'll have it assembled by tonight then I'll see what sort of a mess I make painting it !  A job for the airbrush I think …..

Hi Matt.  Oh I would like to be able to do that in a week, let alone in a day. I was expecting the nurse to visit me today with my Covid-19 jab, even she didn’t turn up.   Best wishes Kevin

Ah, another convert to SMS and I'm happy that the bridge went together so easilly for you Peter, as some of their smaller detailing kits can be a tad fiddly.

Enjoy the fun part with the painting.

Best,

Bill

Well done finding Scale Model Scenery. They are a great company and their products are now dotted all over Teasel. Hope you enjoy making it, they are usually slotted together rather nicely.

Another reply lost……try again
Great progress with the bridge. I am amazed it could be built so quickly …..it looks quite a complex detailed model.

Good luck with the painting……and grass cutting etc. I am looking forward to some pictures……of the bridge….you can skip the grass and washing up:lol:

Keep well

I look forward to seeing the completed bridge Peter. I do like their products and I just received a new parcel yesterday. A few minor detailing bits and Delux Materials laser cut kit glue. I saw Justin use it on a live demo and thought I would give it a try. Sneakily they ommitted the word glue in the list of items in the package - guess it avoids awkward questions with carriers when shipping overseas. I'll be watching todays live build although I have to admit if it's not a must have for my layout I use it as a challenge to build one from scratch. Last week was a small barn - I'll but the pics on Tinkers End in the next few days.

Well, in the end, it took slightly longer than a day but she's assembled !!

The delay was nothing to do with any difficulties with the build which, under normal circumstances, would have been easily completed in the day.  As I said previously, I used Deluxe Materials "Super 'phatic" glue which only takes 20 minutes to dry so no delays waiting for glue to set.

As it was, the weather over the last few days has been wonderful and SWMBO suggested that, if I didn't get some of her "essential" things done outside, it would be more than bridges I'd need to build ……………  They just don't understand do they ……………..

It's a fabulous model, very well cut with just tiny "blips" to sand off where it was attached to the sprue - being MDF, there's no grain to worry about and I'd guess it will be beautiful to paint - but that will have to wait for the next wet day.  Until then, I'm told I'm "otherwise engaged" ………… !!!

The driver's eye view - not sure why there are 2 options for rail positioning but my Peco Code 100 track sits comfortably on thebearers:

There's a thin sheet of glue-on superb rivet detailing included which contains gussets for top and bottom where the braces meet the deck at the bottom and the bowstring at the top plus surface rivel detail for the span itself::

This is the first laser-cut kit I've built and I'm very pleased indeed with it.  I  will certainly be buying more laser-cut stuff in the future.

Hi Petermac.   Very good work there, but, the strips carrying the rivets is that brass? As I was thinking about the adhesive required to do the job , could you please advise me on which brand/ type you used. Best wishes Kevin

A very nice job Peter, the rivet details look great..  More importantly, it will be a great addition to Maxwell and will bridge (no pun intended) the gap very smartly.

That looks fabulous Peter and soooooo many lovely rivets which will look great weathered and perhaps rusted to some degree.

Looking forward to seeing the Pannier traversing the gap.

Best,

Bill
