Build of a layout based on Callington

How time flies by…

It has almost been 12 months since I had done anything on Kelly Bray and now is the time for me to pull my finger out and get stuck back into it.

I have just been going through my collection of styrene strip, card, brick (embosed styrene) to see what I need to start on the engine shed. I have some materials to start but I still require another 2 packs of 1mm x 2mm styrene strips (Evergreen Styrene) to build the internal framing of the engine shed. As I have already drawn up a plan for the engine shed, that is side walls and end wall, I have a good starting point with most measurements ready to go.

I have looked over some photos and noticed that I need to close up the spacing between the vertical columns on the diagram above. This shouldn't be too difficult, hopefully ! Actually, I will revert back to using Lego as spacers for this project. ;-)

An item I purchased recently to aid the build is this :

Yep, the blade (single sided razor) is a little rusty, but it is damn sharp !

Now, off to cut 64 lengths of styrene at 66mm long or a scale 16'6"… ;-)

Cheers, Gary.

That looks to be a very interesting project Gary.  Having built several things with Evergreen, I would caution that you ensure that things are reinforced and that the glue is allowed to vent.  It does have a tendency to warp and I've had some very strange looking walls.

Thanks for the tip. :thumbs

I haven't had a problem with styrene and venting. The engine shed will be a styrene frame and clad in cardboard corrugated iron, same as the station overall roof I built over 12 months ago. The station building/overall roof is still square and quite rigid with no evidence of warping.

Cheers, Gary.

Now, I have come to realise that I had started a thread on building Callington engine shed in the Scratchbuilding section. I may as well keep carrying on with the build in there. GFive me a few minutes and I'll post up a few pics of the progress…

Continuation of engine shed build is nowhere : http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=12104&forum_id=14

Cheers, Gary.
