Build of a layout based on Callington
Be wary of having too many magnets - at times while you are dropping off brake vans, etc, it is possible that other wagons are sitting over other magnets.IMO No 6 is not needed as No 5 can do the trick, uncouple & set in delay mode & push them into the Cattle Dock

Once all the magnets are in and the rolling stock have been re-coupled, I'll post something up. One great thing about the magnets is that there is no need for wiring, Just park the wagons couplers over the magnet, draw the loco back a little, then push wagons where ever they are required. The Kadee couplers are a delayed action which makes such movements quite easy.
Hi Sol,
Quite right about magnet no.6. I'll use that magnet in place of no.7, then I shall only have to buy no.8 ! I also understand why too many can be a problem. Each magnet will be positioned far enough from the points to allow a loco to sit on live rail and not on any point frogs. This will also mean I have plenty of clearance between wagon/coach for trains to pass.

My apologies, I thought they were " electro " magnets. Even better and simpler if there are no electrics.
Happy days.

Light weight wagons will move so I also weight each wagon based on NMRA recommendations

where 1 oz is approx 28 gms.

Steam Era Wheels ; http://www.steameramodels.com/wheels.htm
The good thing about these wheels are they are NOT magnetic.
On another note, I found these 3mm cube neodymium magnets on ebay, quite cheap and free postage and yes, they do post world wide.
125 magnets for $9.99 (£5.10) and or 216 for $16.66 (£9.10)… They do do smaller bundles !

Steam Era wheels they may not be the same diameter as required for UK stock.

A general question, not specifically regarding Kelly Bray.
Once a train has arrived and all the wagons are in there respective sidings for unloading/loading, where does any brake van sit?
Reason I ask s that I saw a diagram of a goods yard somewhere on the web, that showed a small siding specifically to store brake vans prior to being reused on the outward trip.
Just wondered how this was achieved on a small branch.

Generally if a goods train entered a yard, the loco would have to uncouple from its train, run around it, uncouple the brake van and perhaps either sit it in the run around loop, a refuge siding or to where the loco moved to prior to running around its train.
Here is a sketch of train movements.

So if you have a couple of goods trains arrive with no departures, there may well be a couple of brake vans 'parked' wherever there was available space.
Just trying to get my head around how operations might work when I eventually get my track down.

I love that curved platform build Don't know why but they always seem to look more real in model form than the straight jobs.
Best of luck with the magnets:mrgreen:.
