Phil, the boards were built in my lounge room & moved out to the layout room later & will have buildings etc hiding them - all the wiring is on top & in the fullness of time, will also be hidden.
The D&S while is has a lot of scenery, it is mainly an operating layout keeping myself & 5 drivers busy twice a month for just over 2 hours per night.

Currently with all my other involvements in the hobby ( equivalent to 4 days a week - 8 hours per day ) plus some home duties, I don't see this layout getting 99% completed for at least another 5 years but who cares ? !

Looks good, Sol. Interesting track plan; is it a real place or like my Wadebridge where I got carried away?

Cheers Pete.

Tiverton is a real place but the D&S being freelance, does what it likes - all stations are named after real places but the working stations are spelt differently
Watchit - a play on Watchet
Tawnton = Taunton
Charde = Chard
Marabost = names from my operating crew

Yes, I broke down between Taunton and Bridgewater with 8,000 bricks on at about 5.30am. Injector pump knackered, so couldn't fix it, despite being a qualified diesel mechanic. Of course it had to be in January, so nice and cool. Towed on the bar with no working brakes… loads of fun. :-)

Cheers Pete.

Sol, I've just been reading about the D&S.  It's changed quite considerably since the outset!!  As an operator on the D&S, I think what you have now is miles better than what you had back in 2011!  For the record. I enjoy operating on the D&S, especially when we can give Sol plenty of stick! :rofl:

Yes David, there has been quite a few changes, some of them suggested by the crew…. but one that is constantly mentioned being the helix -  is constantly ignored  :notworthy:

Funny isn't it. I was only thinking about you and your layout the other day, Sol.

Cheers Pete.

Are we going to see some update shots Sol ?  Haven't seen much of the layout since the beginning of the year …………………

Am I guessing that this ignored "helix proposal" came from Dave "dorsay"…………………………:07rolleyes_2:

There hasn't been much done in the way of scenery, I have been concentrating on train orders etc combined with other model activities.
The "helix proposal" comes from a few of the crew at different times and like all good layout owners, just ignore them……

A helix can create more levels - one layout I work on has a big helix double track of 6 levels getting the layout up from about 2ft off the floor to approx 4 foot.
In my case, the crew suggested a big helix in another shed & both sheds joined  by two 5-6" PVC pipes = one for each direction  & have a few more stations in the other shed & split the crew or get more crew. Very helpful are my crew….

Perhaps you could live in the shed Sol and move the D & S into the house - closer to your coffee machine and you could cook a meal for them whilst they're operating ………………………

Are you still involved with that club layout ?

Not much time for a coffee break then Sol……………………….

It appears your zest for cooking is like mine - if we were intended to cook, they wouldn't allow take-aways ………….:cheers2_2:

You side-stepped my question about photos - are we going to see some recent pics of the D & S in all it's glory (taken in your spare time obviously )  ?

PeterMac. no new photos coz no new work done, just fiddling with paperwork to make things theoretically work  as the crew find new ways to 'stuff" things up.
Like I had an Op session last night & some suggestions means some time doing revamped paperwork  !!  As David/ Dorsay is fully aware of…
