After some other crew discussed it today, it would a real PITA to do tracks changes underneath the top storage location and as there would still be a track that is multi-used, interlocking some existing turnouts should overcome the problems of trains going the wrong way. Two turnoutss, one each end of the layout approx 18 ft apart…

So while I am not physically doing track changes, I have to so me re-work of the electrics for the turnout motors  -  ah well , keeps the grey cells active !

The two turnouts to be interlocked are XXXX  & YYYY

Devan & Bruton Jns are already interlocked.

Less drastic changes there Ron especially if the interlocking solves the problem are your signals linked to the turnouts?

Brian, signals are set by the main signalman (me) to green  if the approaching turnouts are set correctly & revert to red when the loco passes the signal.

Tawnton station looking East

looking West

if a loco travels from one end to the other via the goods yard, it navigates 18 turnouts.

Thanks Phil, mainly built for model rail operations, not following UK prototype.  A couple of track re-arrangements following crew suggestions.

With a few track changes partly completed, this is the theoretical plan of the D&S

You could argue the complexity keeps your brain active Sol ……………………… :hmm

I read elsewhere that you'll have to re-do all your timetables - is that still the case ?

and for those who maybe interested in what this is on a DCC layout

part of the overload/ short circuit protection - globes in series with a toggle switch to be able to isolate subsections.
Across the globes 18w & 5W, is a full wave bridge rectifier that  powers a buzzer so under a short circuit, voltage drop across the globes is enough to activate the buzzer but when the globes are cold, no voltage drop so no buzz.

Sol,

That short circuit setup is neat, I could use something like that!
Can you share the wiring and components setup with enough clarity for an electronics dummy (i.e. me)?

Colin, the festoon globes fit into holders like these
  for the facia mounted unit

and the bigger one under the layout

and this I think explains it

My writing is Cr*p , the buzzer code is AB3452

Saw that on the Watchit thread and thought it must be something to do with short circuit protection (guessed it wasn't an indicator when trains go round corners  )

Nice one Sol  :thumbs

Hi Sol,

Disappointment I'm afraid. I followed your plan with the sole exception of omitting the 5W lamp and I just finished testing.

When I create a short the 18W lamp produced the very faintest red glow before the NCE Power Cab detects the short and resets. There wasn't enough voltage drop to trigger the buzzer.

My NCE is only over a year old, perhaps their internal short protection in more sensitive to changes in current or whatever it monitors now?

Any other ideas?

Colin
