Can any of the other Australian members help me with advice as to where I can purchase paints and weathering dyes having regard to the restrictions on posting or putting paints on aircraft? I live in an area with no access to any hobby shops who keep any real stock.

If you keep the quantities small they can be posted out. I have successfully bought railway colours from Howes of Kidlington, even fairly recently.

G'day Yungaburra,

It must be awkward for you to recieve anything up there by air freight. Surely most weathering powders wouldn't be to hard to obtain, but I can understand your frustration regarding paints. I posted this link ( http://www.railsinscale.com.au/ ) previously on YMR and I'm sure Dean who runs Rails In Scale (weathering dyes) is from Queensland and he manages to have paints posted to him from NSW ! He mentioned to me recently that he will recieve paints from his supplier until the supplier gets caught out !!:twisted::oops:

Email the contact above and they may be able to sort something out for you.

If you have no luck, maybe someone south could send you something via road or rail freight.

Cheers, Gary.

Ps, lucky you, nice part of the world up where you live !!

Hi Yungaburra,

I asked DCC Supplies Uk to send me Modelmaites " weathering selection, and although they pointed out the restrictions to me , they were sent out marked as modelling toy parts /accessories, and arrived no trouble. 8 plastic bottles with a good selection of colours.

I,ve also had small quantities of Humbrol paints sent out through eBay suppliers, agin with no postal problems to WA

I have had contact with Gaugemaster and Bromsgrove models in regards to Railmatch paints and they have both said that they will post to Australia.  I haven't ordered any yet as I have to determine what and how much, also asking a freind if he needs some will help fill the order.

Thanks for all the good feedback.

I have contacted Howes Models who are sending me some Railmatch paints and Phoenix Paints who are sending some of their Precision paints.

No one will send aerosol or thinners which is sensible.
