SCREWDRIVER TO FIT DAPOL 14XX

Hi all……anyone know of a uk supplier for O size phillips precision srewdriver suitable to remove dapol 14xx chimney as i need to clean and lube it i am unable to find one with a small enough shank (1.7 mm) to fit in chimney:hmm

I think you my have to invest in a set of jeweller's screwdrivers Dave ………………:roll::roll:

I've had the same problem but bought a cheapie set by Draper.  Not ideal, but good enough ………although I suspect, being Dapol, you're in "N" Gauge :roll:

Hi Petermac …yes it is for N gauge all jewellers precision screwdrivers i have looked at are  too big a diameter around 2-2.5 mm and i need 1.7 mm max…:thud

Maybe a silly thought Dave but could you take it into a local watchmaker and ask him to remove it ?

They have very tiny screwdrivers.  Tiny screwdrivers are available but they're not cheap !!  To get some, you'd have to go to a specialist supplier.  If you want your own set, try Googling "watchmaker's tools" or something like that ……….:roll:

Whilst I see they're Phillips screws Dave, this is the sort of thing you need.

I Googled "Jeweler's screwdrivers" and this came up.

Sometimes, a cross-head will work on a Phillips screwq although, if cross heads are available, then surely Phillips are too. :roll:

You just need a UK supplier.  I'm sure the advertiser would give you the name of either the maker or a supplier over here - or even send them to you at minimal cost……………:roll::roll::roll:

It might be worth going to a local "pound-shop/99p shop" they often have "glasses repair kits" that have small screwdrivers.

Dave, have you tried contacting Dapol themselves?

Hi Ron ….i have tried that way a few weeks back but no joy, dapol do not service themselves it is outsourced to dcc supplies , after informing me that any tampering would void the warranty the reply was use a O size precision screwdriver to fit..:roll:..a lot of help!!!! 

I suppose you have tried DCCsupplies for the screwdriver then?  They do seem to have a large number of small ones - some even mention Dapol in the descriptions.

Hi Geoff…DCC supplies do have screwdrivers advertised and they informed me they use OOO size screwdriver!!!…although its info says its 2 mm a dia shank , i tried a 2 mm drill in the chimney and it does not fit. it does not in another 14xx and 45xx engine either?:roll: I have ordered a couple of different sizes of phillips bits and scewdriver to try at 1.5mm from a specialist optical supplier… will post the results if a successful fit……if all fails i might see if there is enough plastic to drill out to 2 mm dia hole and order the dcc screwdriver or cut chimney to remove screw and replace with a new one as they also supply spares…i only want to clean and lube it!!!:thud

I found a cheap set of tiny screw drivers at my local mega hardware that had a small enough one in the kit. Worth a look.

Hi all…  first of all thank you for all ideas and help to solve this screwdriver mayhem!!:doublethumb  i had a delivery of a screwdriver today and it fits!!!:Happy courtesy of mainline optical connections ltd ….item no TO130 screwdriver with assorted blades..1.5,1.8,2.3mm flat blades & 1.5mm phillips…replacement blades are also available.they do have other ideal small screwdrivers that would be ideal for modelling:thumbs

For future reference, my local Poundland and 99p store have packs of watchmakers/jewellers screwdrivers.
