I bought some plastic Peco kits and am having trouble with the greasy surface.
I've tried the usual scrubbing with soapy water and it doesn't make any difference.
I dimly remember from my IPMS days there was a chemical sold over the counter at chemist shops which cleaned all the grease etc. from the plastic, but I cannot remember what it was called:oops:
Any body got any tips or can name a suitable substance?

You can buy it in Boots but it runs out of the lace holes.

isopropyl alcohol   may do the trick  Mike .

Isopropyl alcohol is also available from elctronics hobby stores much cheaper than from Chemists - and without all of the embarrassing questions.

However, it will remove the paint from some models and/or turn some plastics white.

Try a bit on a non exposed area.  It's the absolute best track cleaning liquid, so it won't go to waste.

As others have said sounds like you need   IPA  you may find your chemist  doesnt carry stock  of it  though dont be suprised as it   has gone the way of Meths some like to have it as a tipple  :roll:

I found some surgical spirit at the back of a cupboard, that contains IPA, I'llgive it a try next time I'm painting.
I've got a fault on my points wiring at the moment and I cannot find out what the problem is.Grrrrrrr:oops:

Maplins do the isopropyl alocohol,  Get the tin not the aerosol.  if you want to clean the track too.

Woah!  Just spray and soft brush with blue window cleaner spray liquid. It's what I use on the greasy Dapol figure plastic. Alternatively, Mangers Sugar Soap [sold at DIY/Decorators stores] is THE stuff, I've used it on plastic models. It leaves a chemically inert surface that seems to attract spray can paint.
